NordiCHI 2022 in Aarhus will continue the NordiCHI tradition of being an international-level venue for dissemination and development of Human-Computer Interaction research in the broadest sense. The conference will be held in Aarhus, Denmark on October 8-12 2022. See<> where more detailed information will follow.

We invite the following types of submissions: Research papers, Critiques, Late-breaking work, Workshops, Demos, and Doctoral consortium.

We invite papers in all areas of Human-Computer Interaction, and welcome the submission of work presenting advances in theory, methodology, technology or practice. Submitted work must be original and not accepted previously for publication elsewhere.

We welcome both longer papers that require more space to present their contribution, and short papers that present significant advances concisely.
All papers will be published and will be available in the ACM Digital Library. At least one author must register and present accepted work at the conference.

Important Dates

  *   Abstract submission 29th April 2022 (16h CET)
  *   Full paper submission 6th May 2022 (16h CET)
  *   Author notification 1 July 2022
  * Camera ready deadline 15 August 2022 (AoE)

Topics include:
Accessibility, Aesthetics of interactions, Anthropomorphic interfaces, Collaborative computing, Design for development, Design for resilience, Design theory and methodology, Designing for games and play, Designing for learning and development, Education in human-computer interaction, Enactive interfaces, End-user development, Ethical issues in human-computer interaction, Evaluation methods, Information visualization, Intelligent user interfaces, Interaction design, Interaction techniques and devices, Interaction with physical things, Interface agents, Models of interaction, Multimodal interfaces, New materials in interaction design, Organizations and human-computer interaction, Participatory design, Physiological and affective computing, Robot Interaction, Society and human-computer interaction, Sustainability, Theoretical foundations of human-computer interactions, Ubiquitous, pervasive, and mobile interactions, Universal design, Usability and usability evaluation, Usable security, User-centred design, User experience, Value-based design, Virtual, mixed and augmented reality.

The Critique submission category will establish a forum for critical and insightful perspectives that challenge the status quo of computing. Submissions must address the conference theme: “Participative computing for sustainable futures,” and will be assessed based on their ability to critically dissect, provoke, or inspire. The Critiques track will spark thought-provoking discussions across subject areas, research traditions, and generations.

Potential submission formats include but are not limited to:

  *   Essay
  * Creative Writing e.g manifestos, stories, fictions
  *   Pictorial
  * Artwork e.g software, video games, audio-visual art
  *   Theoretical or analytical article
  *   Provotype
  * Artifact with networked, generative, and/or programmed elements

Important Dates

  * Submission (abstract and full submission): 6th May 2022 (16h CET)
  *   Author notification: 01 July 2022
  *   Camera-ready deadline: 15 August 2022

The Late-Breaking Work category is an opportunity to present new and exciting contributions that outline tentative findings, early research ideas and technical work, novel conversations toward future work as well as theoretical or methodological discussions that are currently developing in ongoing work.
Accepted LBW will be presented as posters during the NordiCHI 2022 conference. Details regarding presentation and print will be provided with the acceptance notification.

We welcome a broad range of submissions around a diversity of topics and contribution types:

  * An original technology, technique or design in the early stages and/or with or without an evaluation.
  * Selected results from ongoing qualitative or quantitative studies with various levels of analysis.
  * Early stages of research with reflections, important implications and/or (methodological) considerations.
  * Novel discussions and/or analysis of existing or ongoing work that adds a new perspective.
  * Open work that invites feedback or community engagement around next steps, implications to research, applicability and/or novel approaches to analysis and collaborations.

Important dates

  *   Submission deadline: June 1st, 2022 (AoE)
  *   Author notification July 1st, 2022 (AoE)
  *   Camera-ready deadline August 15th 2022 (AoE)

NordiCHI 2022 welcomes proposals for workshops as spaces for debate and co-development of ideas and approaches related to the advancement of research and practice within the field of Human-Computer Interaction.

Accepted workshops should aim to attract 10-25 participants, and run for around a full day, with scheduled morning, lunch and afternoon breaks. Workshops will run in parallel with courses as pre-conference activities on October 8-9.

Important dates

  *   Submission deadline: May 20, 2022 (AoE)
  *   Notification deadline June 15, 2022 (AoE)

NordiCHI 2022 welcomes researchers, industry, art and design practitioners to submit their work to the Demos track. The track invites interactive art and design installations, interface or system demonstrations, tangible prototypes and other interactive experiences that critically or creatively explore the conference themes and provoke discussions around novel technologies.

The track is open to all exploratory, provocative, innovative and ambitious contributions from industry, research, startups, maker communities, the arts, and design. If you have an interesting prototype, device, system, exhibit or installation, we want to know about it. The NordiCHI 2022 conference is a perfect venue for demonstrating your work to the community and beyond!

The selection process for Demos is curated, that is, selected by an esteemed committee, but not sent out to external reviewers. The curated demo content will be selected from demonstration submissions, accepted papers, as well as projects invited by the demo chairs. Authors will not receive formal feedback on their submission, other than the selection decision.

Important dates

  *   Submission deadline: June 1st, 2022 (AoE)
  *   Notification deadline July 1st, 2022 (AoE)
  *   Camera-ready deadline: August 15 2022 (AoE)

NordiCHI 2022 welcomes submissions to the doctoral consortium from PhD students in the field of Human-Computer Interaction, in particular students who are halfway or more through their project.

Students will be accepted based on a four-page description of their project and its status.

We aim to accept 15-20 students, for a full day of activity in parallel with courses and workshops as pre-conference activities on October 8-9 2022. During the day, the students will get feedback on their projects and a chance to discuss achievements and plans with each other and the organizers.

Important dates

  *   Submission deadline: June 1st, 2022 (AoE)
  *   Author notification July 1st, 2022 (AoE)
