It is my experience that _any_ usage of SLOC metrics, regardless of
the application or language

        port
        new development
        C
        Java
        Ada
        etc

does NOT have as its highest or even relevant correlation factor ... the
kind of application,
but which engineer is doing it. I see MORE than an order of magnitude
difference in
productivity between the quickest (and overall best) engineers compared to
the ......
least productive engineers (and unfortunately compensation rates don't
differ by
that same order of magnitude!!)

To even be able to guess at an answer here, we need to know just about
everything about
your development environment:

What kind of editors/compilers/APSE are you using ...
Do you compile in a make/mmake environment?
What level of experience of people are doing this?
Are you talking about just "compile port" or "testing the port" (This is an
important question)

Good luck

Joe
