Many of you will know that SIGCHI has advanced plans to move from
being a SIG to being a Society (still within ACM).

Those of you who were at the SIGCHI Business meeting at CHI 98 will
also know that one possibility being discussed is to make interactions
the flagship publication of the new society.

This has several ramifications, including for the content of
interactions, and for the role of the SIGCHI Bulletin.

Here is one scenario being considered:

interactions becomes the flagship publication, distributed to
all members; its content remains as before: in particular no
        society-related content

The SIGCHI Bulletin moves to a purely electronic form (it is
currently published simultaneously on paper and
electronically); the content remains largely the same

        Periodically (e.g. 3 times per year), a membernet-like
paper publication is sent to all members with details of what
is new on the SIGCHI site, including abstracts of new articles
        published in the Bulletin.

Questions include:

        Does this exclude non-wired members?

What if member fees go up, since interactions is in colour,
and more frequent than the Bulletin?

The Bulletin currently fills a niche unfilled by other
publications; is it acceptable as electronic only?

Is it correct to exclude society-related content from
        interactions in its new role?

If you would like to take part in a discussion on the new roles of
interactions and the SIGCHI Bulletin, it will continue on the
chi-publications mailing list.

the SIGCHI Bulletin)
