Here's a little something of interest to vendors of Ada-related products,
edited to protect the anonymity of the writer:

[In response to my describing significant bugs I had discovered--and
demonstrated to the compiler vendor--four years earlier.]

:> With the exception of the ........... problem, we have seen each of the
:> described problems in the latest release. I think the product now uses
:> the ...................., so that's likely how the ................. got
:> fixed.
:>
:> I didn't want to get into this on the list for fear of being flamed
:> alive, but as long as Ada vendors have such a cavalier attitude
:> concerning the quality of their products, Ada CANNOT be widely accepted.
:> And, doesn't it seem strange to herald the safety and efficiency of Ada
:> programs when our compilers don't exhibit the very quality that we are
:> claiming is provided by Ada?
:>
:> I had several years of .......... and ................ experience before
:> becoming an Ada programmer. I can't remember ever having obvious
:> compiler problems before starting with Ada. When bugs that jump right
:> out and grab you are left in a deliverable product, you have to wonder
:> just how much testing was done, if any at all!
:>
:> You know, the dropped mandate may be beneficial to the Ada community
:> because Ada will now have to survive on actual merits, instead of
:> theoretical ones. A lot of vendors are going to have to get their acts
:> together in a big way if they're going to make it in an open,
:> competitive arena.
