Tuesday May 18, 11:30 AM, just after the opening plenary of CHI 99
(Pittsburgh, USA) a Special Interest Group session on local chapters will
take place:

Making Minds Meet in Your Local Chapter: The Case of SIGCHI.NL

In this SIG we want to bring together members and representatives of
(international) local chapters and discuss with them the possibilities and
pitfalls associated with building a local online community.

SIGCHI.NL is the second-largest local sig in the world. The organizers were
involved in the design and implementation of the SIGCHI.NL web site
<> and are still responsible for the evaluation, updates,
and future extensions. An article on the design of this web site will be
published in the next issue of SIGCHI Bulletin.

The program for the SIG will be:

- kick-off presentation (10 minutes)
- walkthrough of the SIGCHI.NL web site (10 minutes)
- results of a user-survey & lessons learned (10 minutes)
- discussion (40 minutes)
  * is this a special case?
  * did we build a community?
  * what would you have done differently?
  * what have you done differently?
  * what will you do when you get home?
- next steps (15 minutes), how to organize:
  * continuous (international) exchange of ideas
  * support for new local Chapters
  * connecting the local online communities to ACM

If you plan to attend, feel free to send us your ideas in advance, so we
can prioritize and focus the topics for the session. Short presentations by
other local sigs are very welcome.

We hope to see you at CHI 99!
