Journal of Research and Practice in Information Technology

                 Australian Computer Society

Special Issue on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI)

                      Call for Papers

Advances in information technology and telecommunications and the
expansion of the numbers and types of systems and applications that
use the new technology in innovative ways are quickly leading to a
world in which pervasive computing is the norm. The result impacts
upon people in both individual and organisational contexts and in
society at large. This is particularly so with recent developments of
the internet and web-based applications, and with the rapidly
expanding range of technological devices that are being embedded in
many products and systems. It is essential that the research, tools
and techniques developed in the field of Human-Computer Interaction
are considered and integrated into the development of software and
systems using these new technological advances, if the anticipated
benefits are to be fully realised.

The first Special Issue of the Journal of Research and Practice in
Information Technology is devoted to Human-Computer Interaction. High
quality papers, previously unpublished, are solicited on any aspect
of Human-Computer Interaction, its theory and/or practice, and with
an emphasis on a human-centred approach to the design and use of
information technology. In line with the dual aims of this Journal,
papers that discuss research and development in the field of HCI, or
that describe practical applications of HCI research, are welcomed.

Topics include (but are not limited to):
- user-centred system design; methodologies; patterns; interaction
models
- human-work integration; psychological issues; activity theory;
cognitive systems engineering; contextual design
- HCI for people with special needs
- HCI in education and education in HCI
- Human error, safety and system development
- HCI issues in user interface engineering
- Universal design; barrier-free interfaces; international HCI issues
- Usability; methods and tools; evaluation techniques; measures;
guidelines and standards
- Usability in practice; cost justification; case studies
- HCI in applications, such as e-commerce and other web-based
applications; consumer products; mobile and wearable systems; public
information systems; embedded systems; art and entertainment; medical
devices and systems

Visit http://www.jrpit.flinders.edu.au/ACJAuthors.html for
instructions for authors and style guide before submitting a paper to
the Journal.

This special issue will appear as Volume 33, Issue 2, 2001 of the
Journal (May, 2001). Papers for consideration in the special issue
must reach the address below by February 1, 2001.

Four copies of a complete manuscript should be sent to:
