The International Gesture Workshop series provide fora for the exchange
of
ideas and research currently in progress across disciplines. Gesture
Workshop 2001, the fourth in the Gesture Workshop series, builds upon
three
previous highly successful workshops. It aims to encourage
multidisciplinary collaboration by providing a platform for participants
to
share, discuss and critique both research in progress and more completed

research with a multidisciplinary audience.

Within the focus of human-computer interaction or computer-mediated
communication, the workshop will encompass all aspects of interaction
involving gesture and sign language, together with the research relating
to
gesture and sign-language technology. The programme includes over 40
presentations, posters and demonstrations of research work from at least
10
countries including the USA and China relating to:

* Gestures and sign language in human-machine interaction
* Gesture and sign language technology
* Nature of gesture and sign language
* Multimodality

This promises to make GW2001 an exciting and important event for anyone
interested in gesture/sign language related research relevant to
human-computer interaction and human-language technology. The workshop
will
take place over three days offering a combination of invited lectures,
oral
presentations, posters and demonstrations.
