Much is happening in the world of local SIGCHI chapters. Is there a local
chapter near you? Find out by checking the Local SIGs webpage at
http://www.acm.org/sigchi/local-sigs/. That webpage changes frequently; if
there isn't a local chapter near you now, maybe there will be soon. (Hey,
why not start one?)

A sampling (i.e., incomplete list) of what is happening in the world of
local sigs:

BulSIGCHI (the Bulgaria chapter) became an official chapter 24 October.

SIGCHI Italy met last week in Rome and recently announced that it
is co-sponsoring AVI '98 -- ADVANCED VISUAL INTERFACES International
Working Conference (May 25-27, 1998) in L'Aquila, Italy.

SwissCHI, soon to be officially chartered, has scheduled an informal

Tuesday of each month, will feature a two-part program the evening of
November 11: Copyright, Creativity, and the Information Society,
presented by Pamela Samuelson; The Apple Design Project 1992-1997: A
  Retrospective, presented by Harry Saddler.

Chi-Squared (the Chicago chapter) became an official chapter in
September and plans to hold its second meeting in December.

GB/SIGCHI (the Greater Boston chapter) will be meeting the evening of
Monday November 17. The program: The Workplace of the Future: An
Interactive Design Session with the Space Planning Organization
Research Group (SPORG) at MIT, presented by Chuck Kukla.

TwinCHI (the prospective chapter in Minneapolis / St. Paul) "announced
  itself" in October.

KC-CHI (the prospective chapter in Kansas City) sponsored a special
seminar with KCACM and KC Webmasters on October 25: Developing Creative
Strategies for Web Design. KC-CHI's November 4 program: How to Design
Interactive WEB Sites and Multimedia Applications for Kids, presented
  by Jason Bennett.

StLuis (the prospective St. Louis chapter) meets for the second time
the evening of November 5: Designing for Your Users On the Web,
  presented by Joe Grant.

TriCHI (the Research Triangle Park, North Carolina chapter) met last
week, with a presentation of studies in creating visual systems.

BuckCHI (the Central Ohio chapter) meets Tuesday, November 18: Using
CRTS-Based (Customer Requirements and Task Specifications) Focus
Groups for Work Process Analysis, presented by Elizabeth Muncher.
