Ann Brandon is absolutely correct.
"The official reference for legal HTML is hosted on: http://www.w3.org/"
However, you want to use XHTML. This form of HTML is XML compliant. Tidy is
a tool at the W3 web-site that does syntax checking. I do not know about
Netscape; but, Explorer does run XML.

Subject: html "grammar"?

Could someone please point me to a description of legal html?
I'm working on a web crawling program and am continually astonished at
the bizarre things in html that seem to be a)done in the real world, and
b)acceptable to at least Netscape.
