Please join us *Thursday, August 25th* for our next BayCHI Usability BOF
meeting, co-sponsored by UPA. Come learn about *Human-Centered Design in
Action* from our presenters Pete Maher (LUMA Institute) and Jay Elkerton
(Emerson Process Management). Pete and Jay will share a number of case
studies which illustrate their approach to using HCD to succeed on complex
and highly collaborative projects. Meet at Citrix in Santa Clara at 6:30pm
for snacks and socializing, and the presentation begins at 7:00pm. See more

Pete Maher, LUMA Institute, and Jay Elkerton, Emerson Process Management

Pete will highlight LUMA's design methods and two case studies to
illustrate them being applied to get from observations to innovation in
a collaborative environment.

Jay will share the story of how the Emerson Process Group enlists
human-centered design on complex, highly technical products, with a
highly specialized but diverse audience to deliver more usable and
useful products for its customers.

PETE MAHER is chief operating officer for LUMA Institute.  He studied
International Business and German at Universitat zu Koln and earned a
B.S. in International Business and Logistics from Penn State University.

JAY ELKERTON, Ph.D. is director of Human Centered Design at Emerson
Process Management.  Jay holds a B.A. Summa Cum Laude in Psychology from
University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and a Ph.D. and M.S. in Industrial
Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
