KES'2003 INVITED SESSION on AI TECHNIQUES
IN WEB-BASED EDUCATIONAL SYSTEMS
    at
Seventh International Conference on Knowledge-Based Intelligent Information
& Engineering Systems
3-5 September 2003, University of Oxford, United Kingdom

(URL: http://mmlab.ceid.upatras.gr/aigroup/kes03-iwes/)

       ---------------------------------------------------------------------
KES'2003 Distinguished Speaker at this Session
                                          Dr PIET KOMMERS
                              Univesrity of Twente, The Netherlands
"Concept Orientation for Mental Reconstructions in the Saturating WWW"
      ----------------------------------------------------------------------

   CALL FOR PAPERS

Web-based education is an active area of research. Web-based education is
important, because it offers independence of teaching and learning as far as
time and space are concerned. However, conventional web-based educational
systems cannot perform any kind of (human) teacher-like or other intelligent
behaviour. Therefore, web-based educational systems that incorporate such
capabilities are a very interesting case. To incorporate intelligent
features, Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods or techniques are used. This
is not an easy and straightforward transfer task, because of the nature of
WWW. So, use of AI techniques in Web-based Educational Systems becomes an
interesting research area.

The invited session seeks for original quality papers on Web-based
Educational Systems using some kind of AI technique. Topics of interest
include (but are not limited to) the following:

Intelligent Agent-based Educational Systems on the Web
AI Techniques in Web-based Intelligent Authoring
AI Techniques in Web-based User Modelling
 Intelligent Web-based Educational Tutoring Systems
 Intelligent Educational Hypermedia Systems
Knowledge Modelling in Web-based Educational Systems
Knowledge Representation in Web-based Educational Systems
Machine Learning Techniques in Web-based Educational Systems

Authors must submit an electronic copy (in Word, pdf or postscript format)
of their complete manuscript directly to the Session Chair
([log in to unmask]) on or before February 3rd, 2003. Submissions must be
original work and should not exceed 5 pages (12pt letter size,
single-spaced). Authors will be notified about acceptance by March 24th,
2003. Camera-ready copy of accepted papers will be due by April 15th, 2003.

Accepted papers will be included in the KES'2003 proceedings, published by a
major publisher. The specific format of the publisher will be required for
the camera-ready copy. Details will be available with the acceptance
notification. One of the authors of each accepted paper is expected to
register and present it at the session. Extended versions of selected papers
may be considered for publication in the International Journal of
Knowledge-Based Intelligent Engineering or another Journal.
