The research group WISE at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Brussels, Belgium) is looking for a researcher to strengthen the research team working on the DART project. The objective of the DART project is to develop and evaluate methods and techniques to support context-aware recommendation in business intelligence scenarios. An important component is to enhance the user experience by designing and evaluating visualizations that give the user insight into the rationale of such recommendations.

Skills and Experience

- Research experience in the domain of HCI, including context-awareness, recommender systems and visualization techniques.
- Excellent analytical skills, independent researcher, motivated.
- Good English skills (writing, speaking).
- A PhD is an asset but not required. 

Start Date: March 2015
End Date: October 31, 2016.

Work Environment

WISE ( is a research group at the Department of Computer Sciences at the Faculty of Science of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium). The activities of WISE concentrate on innovative systems, such as serious games, recommender systems, innovative web applications, cross-media solutions and multimodal interaction systems, and on engineering methodologies and tools for effectively and quickly realizing these kind of innovative applications. There is a strong emphasis on usability aspects, conceptual modeling and design, semantics, reasoning on designs, adaptivity, personalization, and context-awareness.

Salary: based on the degree and experience, and according to the university scales.
