The availability of massive data sets, coupled with computational methods of analyzing and visualizing them has led to a shift in scientific research practice that also presents opportunities to humanists, social scientists and a myriad of industries and social sectors. Working with actual data sets, industry and social enterprise partners, the Visual Analytics laboratory at OCAD University, led by Dr. Sara Diamond develops and implements data-driven design research methodologies around large-scale digital text, media and numerical data sources.

The post-doctoral candidate will hold a PhD that is relevant to visual analytics (for example, computer graphics, or HCI, NLP, neural network development or cognitive science). They will collaborate with Dr. Diamond in developing research frameworks, studies and outputs in data/information visualization and visual analytics and the analysis of these fields, working with a wide range of data sets, such those deriving from social media, digital media, carbon consumption, genomics, bioinformatics or climate change. A candidate may also have a focus on data visualization expressions on mobile technologies. Their post-doctoral research will contribute to the growing fields of data visualization and visual analytics. They will bring research methodology capacity and practical programming skills.

They will collaborate with personnel from a variety of data dependent industries including medical and bioinformatics industries, science and engineering industries, management and financial industries, culture, and entertainment industries as well as heritage and educational technologies. They will collaborate with other university researchers such as those from the Centre for Information Visualization and Data Driven Design at York University and University of Toronto. They will assist with the coordination of the Visual Analytics Laboratory at OCAD University and in the supervision of talented graduate students, contributing to a culture of creativity, innovation and research dialogue. They will assist with fund-raising for the ongoing development of the Visual Analytics laboratory.
