ACM Conference on Designing Interactive Systems, DIS 2006

Penn State University, State College, PA, June 24-26

** Call for Workshop Proposals: DEADLINE EXTENDED **

Important dates:

Workshop proposals due: 1 March 2006

Notification to proposers: 15 March 2006

Conference workshop day: 23 June 2006

Workshops at DIS 2006 will provide an opportunity for small groups to
engage in focused discussions about a topic of common interest. We
invite workshop submissions addressing all aspects of interactive
systems design - digital books, e-commerce websites, home entertainment
systems, hand-held shopping appliances, homeland security and geographic
information systems, immersive games and other environments, medical and
health-care systems, networked communities. DIS welcomes workshops
related to design analysis, design representations, design methods,
design rationale capture, presentation and use, on innovation in design,
and on tools and environments for designing interactive systems.

Proposals for workshops that result in edited books or special issues of
journals are encouraged.

Workshops will be held on Sunday, June 25, 2006. All workshops will be
full-day meetings with a length of 6 hours per day including a lunch
break and two coffee breaks. Workshops will have 10 to 15 participants.

Workshop participants are generally expected to provide a position
paper, but different workshop organizers may choose to handle this

A workshop proposal should be 2-3 pages including an abstract of 300
words, a one-page call for participation, and workshop technical
requirements. The proposal should describe the topic, the workshop
agenda, and a brief summary of the organizers' backgrounds. These
components should be submitted in one PDF file. Send all submissions to
[log in to unmask] with the subject line "DIS 2006 Workshop
Submission". All submissions are due by 15 February 2006.

Prepare a 250-word Call for Participation including the format and goals
of the workshop, requirements for position papers (e.g. page length,
topics to address, etc), paper review criteria, and where these papers
should be submitted. Developing a web page with additional information
about the workshop for potential participants is encouraged.

Each submission should be accompanied by a cover sheet giving contact
information for the primary workshop organizer. Submissions should also
include a list of any technology or other support requirements for the
workshop (e.g. a screen for projecting, flipcharts, etc), keeping in
mind that you may have to bring these items with you.

Workshop submissions will be reviewed by a committee of interactive
systems design researchers and practitioners. Review criteria include
the workshop's potential for generating stimulating discussions and
useful results; the expected community interest level in the topic; the
organizers' ability to demonstrate in the proposal a well-organized
process and plan for the workshop; and the overall balance of topics in
the workshops program.

Workshop organizers will be notified of acceptance or rejection no later
than 15 March 2006. Final materials including the workshop call for
papers are due 31 March 2006. Workshop paper submissions should be due
by 1 May 2006 and authors should be notified by 31 May 2006. Workshop
position papers are generally 2-5 pages long.
