The Next Step: From End-User Programming to End-User Software
Engineering
WEUSE II Workshop at CHI 2006, Montréal, Quebec, Canada, April 23, 2006

Call for Participation
End-user programmers create large amounts of software, using
environments such as spreadsheets, web authoring tools, and Matlab, but
in the process they often introduce errors. This second Workshop on
End-User Software Engineering (WEUSE II) will follow up on the First
Workshop on End-User Software Engineering (WEUSE I) held in conjunction
with ICSE'05.
This one-day CHI'06 workshop will have two primary goals: (1) to share
information among researchers and practitioners interested in this
area, and (2) to concretely match end-user software engineering
problems and applications in industry with potential solutions drawn
from new and emerging research findings. One possible additional
outcome of the workshop will be a survey paper on the state of the art
in this area.
Submissions:
Research participants from academia or industry: Send a position paper
of 2-3 pages to Margaret Burnett ([log in to unmask])
describing your research interest and background in this area.
Other industrial participants should describe their own real-world
needs in the area of reliability for end-user software, and their own
background related to this area. 1 page is sufficient, but up to 3
pages are allowed. Send to Margaret Burnett
([log in to unmask]).
Selection criteria will include participants' backgrounds and
interests, quality of the work described in position papers, achieving
a spectrum of interesting perspectives, and achieving an appropriate
balance between industry and academia.
Important Dates:
* Jan. 13, 2006: Position papers due (no extensions!)
* Jan. 23, 2006: Notification of acceptance.
* Apr. 23, 2006: Workshop.
Organizing Committee:
Margaret Burnett, Oregon State University
Brad Myers, Carnegie Mellon University
Mary Beth Rosson, Pennsylvania State University
Susan Wiedenbeck, Drexel University
