The 2012 SHARPC Usability Symposium will be held at AMIA 2012 on November 4th!
The topic for this year is Usability & ONC's 2014 Certification Criteria with a focus on safety enhanced design.
This symposium, developed especially for EHR developers and implementers, will 1) review the requirements of the new rule, 2) present approaches to facilitate user-centered design (UCD) and usability assessments, and provide interactive feedback regarding how developers and implementers can creatively meet the objectives of 2014 certification criteria while making sure that they are not constrained by concrete interpretations of Federal regulations that were meant to allow for and even encourage "out of the box" user-centered design ideas.
Speakers from the ONC, vendor community, and SHARPC research team will discuss the following topics:

* Overview of Safety Enhanced Design / Usability Requirements for 2014 EHR Certification

* Review of Specific 2014 Certification Criteria

* Review of Common Usability Challenges for EHRs

* User-centered Design Approaches and Summative User Testing

* Interactive Design Discussion: How to incorporate UCD in 2014 Certification Criteria

* Creative solution design: how to read the rules and think outside the lines
A full symposium overview and tentative agenda are available at: http://www.uthouston.edu/nccd/events
