Rumor has it that local sigs are organizing in India, Michigan, western New
York, Austria, and China.  Watch the SIGCHI Local SIGs webpage for future
announcements.

A sampling (i.e., incomplete list) of what is or will soon be happening
(and in one case, what happened recently) in the world of CHI local sigs:

 Europe

  Wednesday, November 25th features the "Swiss Symposium on Intelligent
  Electronic Catalogs" in Berne, sponsored by SwissCHI.

 Americas (outside USA)

  The 1st Brazilian Workshop in HCI -- Brazil SIGCHI's first meeting --
  took place on October 9.

  CapCHI's next meeting (November 18) will feature a presentation entitled,
  "Improvising the Future" by Michael Kurtz.  This highly interactive
  workshop will involve role playing using techniques from improvisational
  theatre.

  ToRCHI is sponsoring a one-day professional development tutorial on
  November 12 entitled, "Strategies for Promoting Organisational Usability,"
  and presented by Susan Wolfe, The Hiser Group.

 United States

  BayCHI's featured speaker on Tuesday November 10: Ted Selker on "The
  Future Feel of Tools."  Tom Hewett and Colin Ware visit the Bay
  Area to present BayCHI-sponsored, full-day tutorials on Saturday,
  November 7 and Sunday, November 8, 1998, respectively.  And the Usability
  Engineering BOF will be visiting usability labs at SUN Microsystems
  in November.

  CHI-Squared is taking a road-trip of sorts to hear Ben Shneiderman
  speak at the School of Computer Science's Distinguished Lecture Series
  at DePaul University November 6th.

  GB/SIGCHI's November 3rd meeting features Debbie Hildebrandt discussing
  Human-to-Human Communication.

  The next TwinCHI meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 12th.  The
  meeting will be devoted to discussing Ben Shneiderman's lecture, "The
  Eyes Have It: User Interfaces for Information Visualization."

  KC-CHI's November 3rd meeting will be about methods for designing
  websites.

  GatewayCHI's next meeting will be a dinner and planning meeting the
  evening of November 18.

  Louis Tijerina will speak on "Data Entry while Driving" at BuckCHI's
  next meeting: Tuesday, Nov. 10.
