Collaboration and interaction in augmented reality based 
            on trust and virtual presence

Crime scene investigation is currently the responsibility of a specialist team selected on the basis of the situation at hand. As a crime scene changes over time, (e.g. by moving furniture or securing a body, by traces of the investigators themselves and degradation of biological traces) the scene a specialist team captures is often contaminated.

Within the CSI The Hague project (http://www.csithehague.com/), the Systems Engineering Section of the TU Delft focuses on a new approach: one in which crime scene investigation is performed "immediately" by an investigator on site in interaction with experts at a distance. Using new generation head-mounted displays or hand-held devices experts at a distance are able to follow the investigator on location, directly assess the captured information and guide the investigator in his/her analysis of the crime scene.

First experiments have shown that our current system supports the remote spatial interaction with a physical scene and tackles current issues in crime scene investigation. The experiment has also shown open research issues in relation to trust and virtual presence. Details on this experiment can be found in the article:

Within the above project a 1 year PostDoc position is available as per direct. Dependent on continuation funding, an extension of this period is possible. The goal of this period is to research the open issues in relation to trust and presence in mediated reality in participatory systems. The responsibilities within this position include, but are not limited to:
1. To conduct research on trust and virtual presence in mediated reality.
2. To actively participate in the design and development process of a mediated  reality system.

The successful candidate
- has a PhD in computer science
- speaks and writes in English fluently
- has practical and theoretical background in virtual, augmented and/or mediated reality
- has experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods
- has development experience with C++ in distributed environments and graphical applications
