Hi,
CSCW 98, held November 14 - 18 in Seattle, has a great tutorial program.
If you've considered enrolling in a tutorial -- please act soon. And
encourage your friends and colleagues to act too. The early registration
deadline is Friday, October 9. If you register before October 9, each
tutorial unit will only cost $220 ($255 for non-ACM members). After
October 9, the cost of tutorials goes up 45% (through November 6) -- and
is 70% more expensive if you wait to register on site.

Please review the full CSCW 98 tutorial program at:
http://www.acm.org/sigchi/cscw98/program/tutorials.html

And, give special thought to enrolling in the following sessions -- many
openings are still available! All tutorials are held on Sunday, November
15 (except Tutorial 1 on Saturday evening).

Tutorial 3: Victor Kaptelinin, Umea University, and Bonnie Nardi, AT&T
Research, present "Activity theory: Basic concepts and applications" --
activity theory is a fresh approach to describing the strucutre, context,
and development of computer-supported collaboration; examples and concepts
drawn from Nardi's book (full day, 2 units)

Tutorial 5: Karen Holtzblatt and Hugh Beyer, of InContext Enterprises,
present "Contextual inquiry: Gathering customer data for system
development" -- which offers a practical introduction to the use of field
research in designing computer systems that support and extend people's
work (full day, units)

Tutorial 6: Nadia Magenat Thalmann, University of Geneva, and Daniel
Thalmann, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, present "Virtual humans
in collaborative virtual environments" -- which will explore techniques to
integrate virtual humans into collaborative settings, including rules for
social interaction and methods for facial animation (full day, 2 units)

Tutorial 9: Alan Dix, Staffordshire University, presents "Avoiding damn
lies: Understanding statistics" -- which introduces statistical concepts
and analyses in a form usable and understandable by CHI and CSCW
researchers; excellent as a refresher course (full day, 2 units)

Tutorial 11: Andreas Girgensohn, FX Palo Alto Laboratory, and Alison Lee,
IBM TJ Watson Research Center, present "Developing collaborative
applications on the Web" -- which surveys approaches to building Web-based
collaboration tools; includes extensive examples (full day, 2 units)

Tutorial 18: Elena Rocco, Daniel B. Horn, and Paul Resnick, University of
Michigan, present "The World Wide laboratory: Conducting experiments on
the Internet" -- which demonstrates and teaches techniques for conducting
controlled experiments via the Internet -- including how to make subject
payments using electronic cash, subject recruitment, and systems for
playing online social dilemma games (half day, Sunday afternoon, 1 unit)

See you in Seattle!
