CfP International Journal of Arts and Technology: Whole Body Interaction: applications, case studies, evaluations and critical theory

Guest editors

David England, Liverpool John Moores University, UK, [log in to unmask]

Nick Bryan-Kinns, Queen Mary University, London, UK, [log in to unmask]

The field of Whole Body Interaction has recently emerged to take a more holistic view of Human Computer Interaction. It is a research, philosophical and engineering approach to combining several aspects of human computer interaction. Whole Body Interaction encompasses

- Physical Interaction

- Physiological state – pulse, breathing, skin conductivity

- All human senses – including balance, propriocentric sense

- Cognitive Interaction

- Emotional context

- Social Context

The key factor is an integrated and holistic approach. We consider that no one of these aspects can provide sufficiently rich information to support a fully engaged user experience.

In this call we ask for papers that support Whole Body Interaction. The papers must describe support for interaction scenarios that actively support two or more of the above interaction aspects. Papers on topics such as

- Advanced, exemplar applications of whole body interaction

- Critical case studies of whole body interaction

- Evaluation methods for multi-aspect interaction

- Critical theory approaches to Whole Body Interaction

Papers should follow the format described at http://www.inderscience.com/browse/index.php?journalCODE=ijart. Papers should describe novel material and not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. Papers describing, technical frameworks, toolkits and engineering of Whole Body Interaction should see the separate call for the IJVR, http://www.ijvr.org.

Submission Deadline: 1st October 2010
