-------------------------------------
The ISWC'99 program committee decided to move the submission deadline to
June 7 due to requests for the deadline to fall after the
academic semester. The co-located AR workshop
(http://hci.rsc.rockwell.com/iwar/99/) has moved their submission
deadline to the same date as well.

CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
International Symposium on Wearable Computers
http://iswc.gatech.edu/
October 18-19, 1999
Cathedral Hill Hotel
San Francisco, CA, USA
Initial Submissions Due by June 7, 1999

INVITATION
The International Symposium on Wearable Computers (ISWC) is sponsored by the
IEEE Computer Society. The purpose of ISWC is to bring together researchers,
product vendors, research sponsors, and others to share information and
advances in wearable computing. The conference will include presentations,
exhibitions, demos, and poster sessions.
We invite you to attend ISWC and submit proposals for paper presentations,
posters, exhibitions, and demonstrations. IEEE Computer Society Press will
publish the papers. Papers will also be made available on the World Wide
Web.

LOCATION
The conference will be held in San Francisco, California, USA, at the
Cathedral Hill Hotel.

CONFERENCE TOPICS
The topics for ISWC may include:
* Applications, including augmented reality, computer-supported
collaborative work, computer-supported cooperative living, ubiquitous
computing, personal imaging, consumer applications, industrial applications,
medical applications, military applications, and software agents.
* Hardware, including head-mounted display technologies, batteries, power
management, heat dissipation techniques, industrial design techniques, and
manufacturing & packaging issues.
* Human Interface, including hands-free user speech recognition,
mobility-challenged users, user modeling, user evaluations, and health
issues.
* Networks, including wireless networks, on-body networks, the World Wide
Web, and networked vs. standalone computers.
* Operating Systems
* Social implications
* Privacy Issues
* Software Architectures
* Ergonomics
* Training
* Future of Wearable Computing

PAPERS
We invite researchers to submit papers on the topics listed above or other
topics related to wearable computing. The authors of papers that are
selected for the conference will provide presentations during the
conference. To submit a paper, please do the following:
Write a paper that discusses the research, innovation, or advance made by
the author.

* Emphasize the unique contribution of the work and how it will benefit
others. The paper should not exceed 4,000 words (eight pages) in length.
Include the author names, affiliations, addresses, telephone numbers, and
electronic mail addresses. Also, identify the contact person for the paper.
When you write your paper use the IEEE format that is described at
http://www.computer.org/cspress/instruct.htm

* By June 7, 1999, send six copies of the paper to Chris Esposito at the
address below. If you wish to send VHS videotape to help the reviewers,
include 6 copies of a brief (maximum five minutes) VHS videotape with your
submission.

POSTERS
We invite researchers, especially students, to submit summaries for posters
that describe current work related to wearable computing. The number of
posters that are accepted for the conference will be limited by available
space. To apply to present a poster, please do the following:

* Write a summary of the research project that you plan to describe in your
poster. Please describe the problem, your approach, and the significance of
your results. The summary should not exceed 1,000 words (two pages) in
length. Be sure to include the poster author names, affiliations, addresses,
telephone numbers, and electronic mail addresses. Also, identify the contact
person for the poster.

* By June 7, 1999, send six paper copies of the poster summary to Chris
Esposito at the address below.

EXHIBITIONS
We invite you to exhibit your products, services, or research projects
during the conference. Exhibitions will be available continuously in a room
(or rooms) near the meeting room. Exhibitors will show their products and
distribute promotional literature to interested conference attendees.
Exhibitors must register for the conference and may be required pay a fee
for their booths (To be determined).

The number of exhibitors that are accepted for the conference will be
limited by available space. To apply to be an exhibitor, please do the
following:

* Write a summary of the product, service, or research project that you hope
to exhibit. Describe why it will interest the conference attendees. The
summary should not exceed 500 words (one page) in length. Be sure to include
in the summary the exhibitor names, affiliations, addresses, telephone
numbers, electronic mail addresses, and World Wide Web page location. Also,
identify the contact person for the exhibition.
* By June 7, 1999, email the exhibition summary to Zary Segall at the address
below.

DEMONSTRATIONS
Unlike the more formal exhibitions, demonstrations will be on a space- and
time-available basis at the symposium. This is an opportunity to show
prototype hardware and works in progress to colleagues for comment in a
relaxed atmosphere. Paper presenters are highly encouraged to demonstrate
their work after their respective sessions. Accommodations (power, space,
etc.) will be limited, so participants should plan to be mobile and
self-supported. To apply to perform an informal demonstration, please do the
following:

* Write a one-paragraph-long summary that describes what you plan to
demonstrate. Be sure to include the demonstration contact names,
affiliations, addresses, telephone numbers, electronic mail addresses, and
World Wide Web page location for the demonstration (if any).
* By date to be determined (but probably several weeks before the
symposium), visit the conference WWW page for details on demonstrations at
the conference.

GADGET SHOW
Last years Gadget Show was quite popular and such a good idea we are going
to do it again. Come to the conference with your best toys for an informal
show-and-tell. The exact date and time for this event will be announced
later.
