ACM MobiSys 2021: IoT Day (Friday, June 25th)

The growing pervasiveness and continuous improvement of communication technologies is finally enabling the long-standing vision of an actual Internet of Things (IoT), where a broad spectrum of connected, AI-powered services, covering all aspects of future lives including smart individuals and assistants, homes, and even city-scale infrastructures. In fact, the IoT world is still in its infancy, and much of its potential is yet to be discovered, understood, and leveraged. These are thus exciting and unique times for devising and proposing novel ideas that will shape the evolution of the AI-powered IoT ecosystem in the coming years.

The IoT Day @ MobiSys 2021 is an informal venue that will gather a heterogeneous, multidisciplinary audience with academic and industrial backgrounds, including top industry researchers, junior and senior faculty, and talented MSc and PhD students from around the globe.


== Program Highlights ==

* Keynote talk by Jaeyeon Jung (Corporate Vice President, Samsung Electronics) on IoT in our daily life.

* Keynote talk by Margaret Leinen (Director, Scripps Institution of Oceanography and Vice Chancellor, University of California-San Diego) regarding the future ocean science and IoT methods.

* Invited talk by Girish Chowdhary (Chief Scientist, UIUC Autonomous Farm and Assoc. Prof, UIUC) speaking on how IoT is transforming agriculture.

* Invited talk by Eliot Lear (Principal Engineer, Cisco Systems) diving into the evolving standards in the IoT space.

* Invited talk by Daniel Beutel (Co-founder, Flower and CEO, Adap) discussing the progress being made in federating machine learning across IoT device


== Call for “Open Mic” Submissions ==

To broaden participation in IoT day, and surface key issues from the community there will be a one hour “Open Mic” session within the program. Interested participants are asked to submit a single paragraph summary describing the issue/topic they wish to discuss. Accepted submissions will be given 5 mins to present, after which there will be a further 5 mins of questions and discussion from the audience. Illustrative “Open Mic” topics include, but are not limited to: new enabling IoT technology, open challenges, new application areas, societal concerns, predictions of the future, and reflections on current methodologies.

Please email submissions to the IoT day chairs (Nic Lane - [log in to unmask] - and Anna Maria Mandalari - [log in to unmask]) by Tuesday 15th June AOE. Notifications will be made by Friday 18th June.
