2012

SUBMISSION DEADLINE (Abstracts): September 15, 2011

Join us in Hawaii for a hot topic workshop and the unforgettable HICSS
experience!

Service Directories for Software as a Service (SaaS)

Cloud Computing is changing the way IT is used and provided. Upfront
investments are replaced by pay as you go and activity-based costing. While
most current conferences focus on technological and infrastructure aspects
the profound changes in market and economic dynamics remain mostly outside
of the scientific debate.
The long-term viability of Cloud Computing rests mainly on the development
of elastic markets with low entrance barriers for providers and users. An
important prerequisite for such markets are goods or services that are
comparable and interchangeable. While in the area of Infrastructure as a
Service (IaaS) there are ways to compare offerings (e.g., storage, computing
time for a virtual image on a machine) current Software as a Service (SaaS)
offerings are hardly comparable with one another.
By using technical description standards for functionality and performance/
quality levels (starting from UDDI and moving to USDL) service directories
for SaaS can provide a way to transparently model demand and supply. This
will allow them to serve as matching points between providers and users,
thus creating viable open marketplaces for software functionality.

We solicit workshop contributions (abstract max. 2 pages, camera-ready max.
6 pages in IEEE two-column format) in the following areas:

o Identification of trends in the context of service directories
o Description of functional characteristics of SaaS offerings
o Description of non-functional characteristics of SaaS offerings
o Solutions for collaboration: cost benefit-sharing
o Service directories and marketplaces
o Topic-specific offerings – Thematic Community Clouds
o Transparency and trust
o Security and data protection
o Economic and socio-economic aspects
o Standardisation / interoperability
o Design recommendations
o Privacy Laws (Technical and organizational solutions, legal solutions)

Important dates:

September 15, Submission of abstracts
September 25, Notification of authors
September 30, Submission of camera-ready papers; Early-Bird registration
