Working Group 13.1 -- Education in HCI and HCI Curricula
Chairman: Prof. Dr. Peter Gorny
in Technical Committee 13 - Human-Computer Interaction
Invitation to the Workshop
Teaching Design of Interactive Systems
--------------------------------------
TeaDIS
------
Schaerding, Austria, 20 - 23 May 1997
Organized by IFIP WG 13.1 on Education in HCI and HCI Curricula
in cooperation with the European Association of Cognitive
Ergonomics (EACE) and Johannes-Kepler-Universit=E4t Linz, Institut
f=FCr Informatik
Goals
-----
The workshop aims at the development of gene-ric components for
curricula in Higher Education (Universities, Polytechnics etc.)
for the design of Human Computer Inter-action, Multimedia and
Collaborative Sy-stems. The modules will be subject to an
adaption process, in which they are tailored to different
educational situations, cultu-res, and levels of degrees of
various study tracks.
Methods
-------
Investigation of present curricula and course material,
derivation of generic course com-po-nents, recommendation of
methods how to tailor the components to a specific educatio-nal
situa-tion.
Participants
------------
The workshop is directed towards HCI educators in Higher
Education. It will integrate the efforts of education in HCI for
the design of Interactive Systems, especially Multimedia and
Collaborative Systems in the subject areas of Computer and
Communication Sciences, Psychology, Communication De-sign,
Graphics De-sign, Industrial Design, etc.
Outcome
-------
Proceedings with the results from the work-shop, to be published by
end of 1997.
Participation
-------------
The invitation for participation will involve a two-step procedure:
-- submission of an expression of interest (including a short
statement about why you want to participate) to arrive by 31
January, 1997 via fax, postal or electronic mail.
-- a short thesis (2-5 pages) on the topic to arrive by either
electronic mail or in hard copy form by postal mail (but not
by fax) by 1 March, 1997.
If you have an interest in participating in the workshop we ask
that you please send a one page statement to Peter Gorny, at the
address given below, before 31 January, 1997. This will help us
to assess the potential number of position papers and size of
this workshop. In thestate-ment, please describe for us:
-- your present institution and your present activi-ties in
teaching HCI design or design in general;
-- the courses which you and/or your institution offer in HCI
or HCI related design (e.g., degree, level, brief content
statement);
-- your ideas for further development of HCI rela-ted education
within the field of Interactive System Design.
