HCI - SCIENTIFIC TRACK
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With more than 800 participants in the past years, "Mensch und Computer" is one
of the largest conferences in the field of human-computer interaction in Europe.
Every year, the conference attracts participants from science and industry. The
program this year again consists of the scientific track "Human-Computer
Interaction" (HCI) as well as the practitioner track "Usability Professionals"
(UP).

For the scientific track, we invite researchers to submit long (full) papers,
short papers, demos, tutorials, workshops and contributions to the PhD seminar.

Scientific long and short papers will be published in the ACM Digital Library
and will each be assigned its own Digital Object Identifier (DOI). All accepted
contributions will also be published via the Digital Library of the Gesellschaft
für Informatik e.V. (http://dl.mensch-und-computer.de), HCI branch, as open
access publications.

DEADLINES FOR SUBMISSIONS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* HCI - Workshop proposals: March 14, 2021
* HCI - Long (full) papers: April 11, 2021
* UPA - Workshop/tutorial proposals (practitioner track): April 11, 2021
* HCI - Short papers, tutorials, demos, videos: June 11, 2021
* HCI - Contributions to doctoral seminar: July 16, 2021
* CONFERENCE DATE: September 5-8, 2021, Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt

MAIN TOPICS OF THE "MENSCH UND COMPUTER" 2021 CONFERENCE
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Methodological aspects and modeling (agile methods, adaptivity and user
modeling, user requirements for UX, user experience design (UXD), prototyping
and interaction modeling, crisis-proof user studies).

* Interaction techniques (tangible interaction, haptics, touch and gestures,
MRI, multimodal interaction, mobile and ubiquitous interaction, eye tracking/
gaze Interaction, brain-computer interfaces (BCI), assistive technologies).

* HCI applications (IoT/industry 4.0, interaction with embedded systems, smart
home, ambient assisted living (AAL), automotive user interfaces and mobility,
CSCW and social computing, digital humanities and UX, entertainment computing,
AR/VR, gamification and serious games, usable security, health and wellbeing).

* Reflection and perspectives: Individual and Society (affect, aesthetics and
emotion, gender and diversity in design, inclusion, refugee informatics,
economic perspectives in UX, fairness, ethics, universal design, usage studies
  in times of contact constraints).

FORMS OF CONTRIBUTIONS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For all submissions, please use the ACM format template in the latest version.
This can be found on the conference website under "Call for Papers" ->
"Submission and Review Process". Please note that the page length varies for the
different contribution formats. Please submit your work online via the
conference management system ConfTool (https://www.conftool.com/muc2021/).

Long (full) papers:
-------------------
Long papers are expected to be novel scientific contributions with concrete
research results. Accepted long papers will be published in the ACM Digital
Library and the GI Digital Library and will be presented in the form of an oral
Presentation at the conference. There is no page limit, but the longer the
paper, the greater the required contribution. Papers are submitted anonymously
and are peer reviewed (min. 3 reviews). The best long paper will be awarded
the MuC Research Prize (Best Paper Award) at the conference.

Short papers:
-------------
Short papers are intended to share and discuss ideas or first results of a
research project with the scientific community. These need not yet be fully
implemented or investigated, but should make a clear contribution to the
current state of research or practice. Short papers have a length of up to 6
pages plus references. The contributions will be submitted anonymously and
reviewed (min. 3 reviews). Accepted short papers will be published in the ACM
Digital Library and the GI Digital Library.

Demos:
------
This category is open to innovative technology demos, new forms of interaction
and also interactive, artistic works can be submitted. The submission of a demo
is based on a short short descriptive text and a presentation video (max. 5
minutes). The evaluation of demo submissions is less strict than for scientific
contributions and is primarily based on the degree of innovation, the exciting
solution to a problem, the technical novelty or the design quality. An important
criterion is also how interactive and inspiring a demo will be for the MuC
participants. The best demo will be awarded a prize at the conference.

Workshops:
----------
Workshops will provide an open forum for short presentations, discussions or
collaborative work on a specific topic. The whole organization for a workshop
from the invitation to the selection is up to the workshop organizers. Prior to
the main conference, tutorials and workshops will take place on Sunday, 5 Sept.
Further (half- or full-day) workshops will take place in parallel to other
tracks of the conference from 6-8 Sept. Proposals for workshops are to be
submitted in a non-anonymous form. The submission via ConfTool consists of two
parts, a description of the workshop (max. 2 pages) as well as an information
sheet with organizational information and material/room requirements.

Tutorials:
----------
Tutorials offer participants the opportunity to learn new skills, deepen
knowledge, or explore new approaches and technologies. They can be offered for
half or full days on a variety of topics. Contributions can be introductory or
in-depth in nature. Tutorials primarily take place on Sunday, Sept 5. (Prior to
the main conference). The organization of a tutorial will be compensated by a
reduction of the conference fee. Proposals for tutorials are to be submitted in
a non-anonymous form and consist, in addition to a description (max. 2 pages),
of information about the organization and implementation.

Doctoral colloquium:
--------------------
On Sunday 5 Sept. (prior to the main conference), a doctoral colloquium for PhD
students from different areas of human-computer interaction will take place.
Current or recently completed doctoral projects will be presented to and
discussed/commented by experts in the field. PhD students will receive
guidance and ideas on how to improve their own work. Another goal is to promote
the exchange between doctoral candidates. Participation in the seminar is by
invitation only and based on the submission of a position paper/statement via
ConfTool (application deadline July 16, 2021).
