PhD Position (TV-L E13, 65%) in Post/Doc Lab Reorganizing Industries of the MCTS, TU Munich
Application Deadline: October 31, 2017

The Post/Doc Lab Reorganizing Industries announces an open position for a doctoral researcher (TV-L E13, 65%, 18 months, fixed-term, we seek to arrange an extension of the employment-duration). The Post/Doc Lab Reorganizing Industries is based at the Munich Center for Technology in Society (MCTS), a cross-faculty integrative research center focusing on the interplay between technology and society. The research of the Post/Doc Lab is concerned with the transformation of industries in the context of digitalization. Particular attention is given to the role of organizations as important drivers as well as subjects of this process.

About the Research Project ‘Industry without borders? The transformation of organizational control in the industry of the future’
The research project asks how the digital transformation of industries will change organizational borders and how this will affect organizations. The discourse on industries of the future suggests that exchanges and information flows in digitalized industries will not be restricted by organizational borders. How do organizations actually change and what do these changes mean for employees and managers? In close cooperation with our partner universities in France, the research project strives to provide empirically informed answers to these questions. The project will be based on comparative case studies. Interviews and ethnographies will be conducted in different companies located in France and in Germany.

Your tasks as a doctoral researcher
As a doctoral researcher, you will work as part of a project team. Your research is expected to contribute to the theoretical framework of the research project and the Post/Doc Lab Reorganizing Industries. Beyond the group, you will be part of an inspiring and lively research community at the MCTS. Active engagement in the academic life at the MCTS is expected. This includes organizing academic events and supporting different activities within your research area. You will actively participate in the academic life at the center, present your work at international academic meetings, gain initial experiences in teaching and academic publication, and assist in the organization of academic events and other activities of the group. As a PhD student, you will be enrolled in the TUM Graduate School, which provides a structured PhD program and offers a rich program of courses in academic and transferable skills.
