6o Years Birthday Symposium for Susanne Bødker

October 14, 13:00 – 15:00

Peter Bøgh Andersen Auditoriet Nygaard building (5335-016)
Aabogade 34, 8200 Aarhus N., Denmark
==============================================

Theories and/or/for/with/of Practices in Human-Computer Interaction

Susanne Bødker’s contribution to HCI is characterized by a strong commitment to the
evolution of HCI as a well-founded academic discipline with a strong basis in and
impact on practice. Her early work was driving and driven by the transformation of the
external political critique in the early trade union collaboration projects, in particular
the UTOPIA project, into an internal paradigm shift in scientific human computer interaction.

Throughout her career, committed studies of practice have gone hand in hand with strong
contributions to theory building. Thus, Susanne was a key figure in establishing activity
theory as a framework for HCI. In particular she was committed to bringing the new theory
to application in design work. Also, she played a central role in establishing the European
tradition for workplace study based CSCW research.

In this celebratory symposium, we have invited a number of former PhD students and
Danish collaborators to reflect on their own work in relation to Susanne’s positions in HCI.

PROGRAM:
13:00 Introduction (Olav Bertelsen)
13:10 Ecologies (Clemens Klokmose, AU)
13:30 Activity based and beyond (Jakob Bardram, DTU)
13:50 From CSCW work place studies to Critical Participatory Design (Pernille Bjørn, DIKU)
14:10 Bødker’s Waves (Kasper Hornbæk, DIKU)
14:30 Synthesizing comments (Susanne Bødker)

After the symposium, all are invited to a reception outside the auditorium.
