========ABOUT BCSS========

“BCSS is an object of study within the persuasive technology research field. A BCSS can be defined as a socio-technical information system with psychological and behavioral outcomes designed to form, alter or reinforce attitudes, behaviors or an act of complying without using coercion or deception” (Personal and Ubiquitous computing, Vol. 17, No. 6, August 2013, pp. 1223-1235)

All BCSSs have a persuasive component. What distinguishes research into BCSSs from other persuasive systems is that BCSSs are full-fledged systems, which emphasize user’s voluntariness in the persuasion process, personal goal-setting, quality and content of information provided, computer-mediated communication, development of software platforms and architectures, methods and processes to develop these systems, requirement for 24/7, organizational and social impacts on par with end-user impacts, and feasible business models, among other issues.

========WORKSHOP FOCUS AND OBJECTIVE========

The purpose of this workshop is to develop a richer understanding of the Behavior Change Support Systems (BCSSs) – as an object of Persuasive Technology. The workshop will provide a platform where students, researchers, experts and practitioners will have an opportunity to not only present their work but equally importantly develop a mutual and broader understanding of Behavior Change models using the BCSSs.

The second edition of this workshop will build upon the insights and research topics of last year’s workshop of which the proceedings have been published online and which has led to a special issue on “Social Interaction and Reflection for Behaviour Change” in the Personal and Ubiquitous Computing journal.

========TOPICS/THEMES========

Development
•	The involvement of users in early stages of the development to tailor systems in accord with user profiles
•	Stakeholders’ perspectives (users and experts) to create BCSSs that have value in practice
•	Persuasive strategies that are related to different stages in achieving outcomes (attitude, behavior, compliance)
•	Using persuasive strategies to support activities offline (for example to support viewing and downloading mindfulness exercises, to support social support in lifestyle changing programs
•	Persuasive prompts to create engagement and involvement in serious game interventions
•	User profiles to identify what persuasive strategies matter most for whom
•	Software designs and design approaches for developing BCSSs

Evaluation
•	Usage data to know the dose, duration, time and format of persuasive strategies
•	Adequate design for measuring the effect of persuasive strategies on task adherence during usage and long-term effects (fractional factorial designs)
•	Frameworks and methodologies to measure A/B/C-Changes (attitude, behavior or compliance
•	Profiling personalities with Big 5 personality traits and matching them with persuasive strategies
•	Multimodal cues and the effects on adherence and outcomes
•	Advanced analytics to predict adherence, to identify usage patterns and the effects on adherence
•	Evaluation of persuasiveness of different BCSSs (mobile, ubiquitous, ambient technologies), moving towards a checklist for practice
