SUI 2017 Call for Demos
October 16-17 in Brighton, United Kingdom
http://www.sui2017.org

*** Sorry for cross-posting ***

**** IMPORTANT DATES ****
- Demo Submissions
Submission deadline: August 14, 2017
Notification deadline: August 20, 2017
Camera-ready deadline: August 25, 2017
Early Registration: August 21, 2017

The demonstrations track of ACM Symposium on Spatial User Interaction 2017
(SUI) provides the opportunity to showcase your SUI related research in a
direct and interactive way. We seek exciting research demonstrations,
interactive experiences or commercial products from individuals,
laboratories or research groups (academic, government, or industrial) from
all areas of spatial user interaction. We are also looking for artists who
are focusing on the intersection between artistic expression and the
technological mediums enabling spatial interaction.

This is your chance to fully engage the attendees at a personal level by
letting them see and interact with your work. Demos should interest the
broad SUI community and be presentable in a conference setting. Research
Demos will be expected to run during the dedicated demo session, lunch
breaks and coffee breaks of the conference.

- Co-located demo session with ISS 2017
This year, SUI will be co-located with the ACM International Conference on
Interactive Surfaces and Spaces (ISS) in Brighton, UK. An additional joint
demo session between SUI and ISS will be organised. The joint session will
be held during the Reception Event on Tuesday, October the 17th, at the
Jurys Inn Brighton Waterfront (
https://www.jurysinns.com/hotels/brighton-waterfront). During this combined
event, we are planning to invite the press in order to garner greater
publicity for the conferences and enhance the visibility of your demos!

- Specific topics of interest
This year, we have a special theme! We invite you to investigate the
metaphor of human gestures (movement, expression, emotion related, etc.) to
interfaces (visible or invisible, virtual or tangible) that result in the
construction or intervention of an action or a space.

Of course, we also welcome all kinds of exciting works! Submissions should
address one or more of the topics below. Unlisted but strongly related
topics are also welcome.

* Spatial interaction techniques
* Spatial user interface metaphors
* Spatial input devices and technology
* Interaction on spatial, stereoscopic, and 3D displays
* Evaluation methods for spatial user interaction
* Collaborative interaction in 3D space
* Design and user experience (UX) for spatial user interaction
* Applications of human spatial perception to interaction
* Adaptive and perceptual-inspired spatial user interaction
* Applications of spatial UIs, such as games, entertainment, CAD, education
* Gesture-based spatial interaction
* Tangible spatial user interaction
* Multi-touch technologies for spatial user interaction
* Desktop interfaces for spatial interaction
* Multisensory and other novel forms of spatial user interaction

- Submission Information
Demo proposal should include:

A one-page description of the demo using the ACM SIG Proceedings extended
abstracts format (
http://www.acm.org/publications/article-templates/proceedings-template.html).
This description should include information about the overall architecture
of the system, installation, exhibit or performance, interaction with the
audience, foreseen benefits to audience members, as well as its relevance
and impact on the SUI community, emphasizing on the novelty and rationale.
In addition, a short paragraph with a description of the research lab or
creators is strongly encouraged. Please submit your extended abstract in
camera-ready format. Note that demo submissions, unlike paper submissions,
are not anonymous.

Supplementary materials should include a schematic of the layout (showing
components such as projectors/cameras) of the demo and a picture showing
the demo in action.. Please include what equipment you will be bringing and
other equipment/materials you are requesting, although we cannot guarantee
any equipment will be provided.

(Optional) A brief video of the demo in action (URL to be included in the
proposal). The video should demonstrate how users will interact with the
demo as well as any other relevant information about the demo. This is
optional, but the authors are strongly encouraged to prepare their videos
in their submissions.

Submissions should be made through the online submission system (
http://new.precisionconference.com/sui17c/). Please visit our site for more
information at http://www.sui2017.org/demos/

- Presenting at the Symposium
SUI 2017 will provide basic infrastructure for the demos (space, a table,
and power). In addition, authors of accepted demonstrations will have a
time slot in the fast-forward research demonstration session to present a
slide communicating more general information about the specific demo.

Accepted demos will be included in the proceedings. At least one author
from each accepted demo will be required to register to present at the
symposium. If no author is registered by the early registration deadline,
the accepted poster will be withdrawn from the proceedings and digital
libraries.
