I am excited to announce the creation of a new journal: Foundations and
Trends in HCI (FnT in HCI) (www.nowpublishers.com/hci/). This journal is
specialized for comprehensive survey articles in HCI. Unlike the main other
computing survey journal, FnT in HCI focuses entirely on HCI. With each
quarterly issue surveying a single subject (up to 100 pages), we aim to make
this the comprehensive source for when you want to learn about a new HCI
research area.

Publishing in FnT in HCI offers many advantages. First off, the process is
fast. We publish electronically and in paper form, and there is currently
no backlog. The online version contains direct links to the cited articles
and enables wide access from a subscriber. Furthermore, authors retain
copyright so that they can re-use their work at will. The journal is
intended to create a modern publishing vehicle that compensates authors,
provides highly-used content and enables it to be widely accessed at
affordable prices.

Apart from the aforementioned retention of copyright, there are other
advantages for authors - up front payment of an honorarium (we also pay
honoraria to our reviewers), potentially high impact factor because this is
a peer-reviewed journal, and immediate publication upon delivery/acceptance
rather than waiting for other articles to fill an issue. The fact that you
retain copyright also means that you can reuse the material for an eventual
full-length book on the topic. It is well-suited for adapting a detailed
dissertation literature review, and course or CHI tutorial notes.

We have a great advisory board (Gregory Abowd, Jonathan Grudin, Clayton
Lewis, Jakob Nielsen, Don Norman, Dan Olsen, Gary Olson, and Sharon Oviatt),
and are currently accepting submissions. Take a look at the journal website
to see the first issues already published, and let me know if you are
interested in writing an article. There are a handful of new issues well on
their way, but obviously there are plenty of open topics.

Email me if you are interested in writing for FnT in HCI. Looking forward to
hearing from you.
