Registration====================Conference registration and Hotel
registration is open!You may register to IEEE VIS 2018 now via the
conference homepage ieeevis.org <http://ieeevis.org>.Note that- Early bird
deadline for conference registration is September 7, 2018.- The current
hotel room rates are guaranteed only until July 27, 2018. After this, hotel
rooms at the conference hotel are subject to
availability.http://ieeevis.org/year/2018/info/registration/conference-registration

Short Papers Reminder===================Submission deadline: June 13,
2018For the first time, the 2018 SciVis conference solicits submissions in
a new short paper format. Short papers offer a new way to contribute recent
results and preliminary work to the VIS conference, which may be especially
valuable for younger researchers. Accepted short papers will be presented
at the VIS conference, in a 10 minute presentation.For details, visit:

<[log in to unmask]>====================Panels
Reminder====================Submission deadline: June 15, 2018Panels
address important and/or controversial applications and issues in
visualization today. In particular, we invite topics in connection with
interesting application fields. Panels bringing together potential users of
visualization technology (e.g., practitioners and industry professionals)
and leading researchers, or panels consisting of experts in fields that
might teach us important concepts (e.g., perceptual psychology, visual
design, color theory, user-interface design) are welcome.For details, visit

Reminder====================Submission deadline: June 16, 2018The poster
program offers a timely venue to present and discuss new visualization
research through a forum that encourages graphical presentation,
demonstration and active engagement with IEEE VIS participants. Submissions
consist of a two-page summary of your work. Interactive poster sessions
will provide a forum for presenting your work and discussing new ideas with
your peers. Live demos and videos are encouraged. Posters will be displayed
throughout IEEE VIS and the summary will be published in the electronic
conference proceedings.For details, visit

Challenge 2018 ====================Submission deadline: July 13, 2018The
Visual Analytics Science and Technology (VAST) Challenge is an annual
contest with the goal of advancing the field of visual analytics through
competition. The VAST Challenge is designed to help researchers understand
how their software would be used in a novel analytic task and determine if
their data transformations, visualizations, and interactions would be
beneficial for particular analytic tasks. VAST Challenge problems provide
researchers with realistic data sets and questions for evaluating their
software, as well as an opportunity to advance the field by solving more
complex problems. This year, we return to the Boonsong Lekagul Wildlife
Preserve scenario from 2017, as complications from last year’s situation
have arisen, providing new opportunities to apply visual analytics (and
other data analytic) skills. Look for mini-challenge data to become
available throughout the month of April. For details, visit

Dissertation Award Nomination====================Submission deadline:
extended to June 30, 2018The IEEE Visualization and Graphics Technical
Committee (VGTC <http://vgtc.org/>) sponsors the annual Best Doctoral
Dissertation Award program to recognize outstanding academic research and
development in visualization and visual analytics. The dissertations must
address a topic relevant to visualization or visual analytics. The
competition will be administered by the IEEE Visualization Pioneers Group
(VPG <http://vgtc.org/content/ieee-vgtc-visualization-pioneers-group>)
under the auspices of IEEE VGTC. The IEEE VGTC VPG Doctoral Dissertation
Award is presented annually at the IEEE VPG Reception held at the IEEE VIS
<http://ieeevis.org/> conference.For details, visit

Grants====================Submission deadline: September 4, 2018The VIS
conference is excited to support our VISKids and young families! Grants of
up to $500 per family are available for VIS attendees who are bringing
small children to the conference or who incur extra expenses in leaving
their children at home. If requests exceed available funding, or if
additional funding becomes available, preference will be given to students
and early career attendees who are presenting at the conference.For details

====================1. Announcing the VisInPractice Invited Talk
SeriesVisInPractice 2018 will feature 30-minute talks by invited
practitioners who will share their experiences relating to the practical
aspects of data visualization and visual analytics. Confirmed speakers
include Alyssa Goodman (Harvard University & the Smithsonian Institution),
Shan He (Uber), Jürgen Bernard (TU Darmstadt), Maarten Lambrechts
(freelance consultant), Luke McGovern & Ayhan Inceoglu (Siemens), Jan
Willem Tulp (Tulp Interactive), and Lisa Charlotte Rost (Datawrapper).2.
Mini-Symposium on Visualizing Uncertainty ReminderSubmission deadline: June
30, 2018The VisInPractice 2018 program will include a fast-paced,
single-session mini-symposium on the practical aspects of uncertainty
visualization, which will include 10-minute lightning talks. We now
encourage submissions for these lightning talks. We ask for a concise
250-word abstract, a 150-word paragraph on what a practitioner can expect
to learn from the talk, and one descriptive image figure. Rather than
focusing on the academic sophistication of your solution, you must clearly
present the practical relevance of your approach. Successful submissions
will communicate the general impact of their approach beyond their
specialized application area.For details, visit
