The OFFIS – Institute for Information Technology (http://www.offis.de/en/) offers two fully funded 2-year Ph.D. positions in the field of mobile health with the option to extend the positions to 5 years. The positions start early 2011.

The projects focus on ubiquitous mobile applications for the unobtrusive collection and presentation of health parameters and touristic information. Your research will be focused on interaction design beyond graphical user interfaces as well as on motivation techniques including the integration of social networks. The projects address pedestrians and cyclists.

We are looking for highly creative candidates who posses the competence to work independently in a team of researchers in the field of mobile health. You should enjoy facing interdisciplinary challenges. You have experiences in human-computer interaction and a strong interest in mobile health monitoring. You have previously worked on mobile application development and sensor integration. Furthermore, we expect an outstanding M.Sc. or Diploma in Computer Science or a related discipline.  In addition, very good communication skills in English, oral as well as written, are expected. German language skills or the strong willingness to acquire German are appreciated.

OFFIS is a research institute in Computer Science in Oldenburg, Germany [1]. About 240 employees are currently working in ICT projects in major application domains of health, transportation and energy.  It is located in the North-West of Germany in the nice city of Oldenburg [2]. As a dynamic university city Oldenburg has a distinct sense of personality and a unique quality of life offering many cultural and free time possibilities. Oldenburg is located near Bremen and Hamburg with the North Sea only few kilometres away. 

As a research institute and in cooperation with the University of Oldenburg, the OFFIS Institute for Information Technology offers excellent opportunities for scientific careers. Depending on your qualification and personal goals, we will support you to pursue a PhD degree in Computer Science.
