RESEARCH ASSOCIATE / POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

General Research Areas: Studying the work patterns of software engineers
to discover how they make use of tools; empirical evaluation of software
engineering tools, and designing improved tools for program
understanding
(including approaches using information retrieval, knowledge
representation, static analysis and dynamic analysis; as well as
approaches to visualize and manipulate information about programs). The
candidate will perform research in one or more of these areas.
Background Required: Ph.D. in computer science, software engineering,
human-computer interaction or some other field (including psychology)
that relates to the research. Candidates must have a basic knowledge of
computing even if it is not their main research area. Candidates must
also have a record of refereed publications and show excellent
communications skills and initiative. Exceptional candidates with only a
Masters degree may be considered.
In addition to working at the University of Ottawa, the candidate will
be
required to spend a considerable amount of time conducting research at
the
site of the company sponsoring the research. Since public transportation
to the company is poor, the candidate will need a drivers license and
must
be prepared to use their own vehicle.
Duration of appointment: Between 1.5 and 2 years
Starting Date: As soon as possible.
Deadline for applications: May 20, 2000. Later applications will be
considered if the position has not been filled.
Salary: Depends on qualifications, but probably between CDN$32,000 and
CDN$42,000
