Call for Participation: Mobile Privacy and Security for an Ageing Population

Workshop at MobileHCI 2018: Barcelona, Spain.

Website: https://csalsa.gitlab.io/mobilehciageing/

Important dates (all times 23:59 AOE):

    May 3, 2018: Paper/poster deadline for participants

June 7, 2018: Notification of acceptance for participants

September 3, 2018: Workshop at MobileHCI

Objective:
The aim of this workshop is to bring together researchers, designers, and practitioners to discuss and identify key privacy and security challenges for ageing populations in the context of mobile technologies including, but not limited to, smartphones, tablets, wearables, and IoT. The workshop further seeks to develop a preliminary research agenda for usable privacy and security systems for ageing populations. Topics include:

How can we effectively engage the ageing population in the design process of privacy and security for mobile services?

How can we give older users more control over their devices’ security and privacy settings?

Are there existing solutions that can be repurposed for inclusivity?

What are examples of existing best practices or systems that have achieved success, and what can we learn from these?

Submissions:
We invite interested researchers to submit a position paper in CHI ACM Extended Abstract Format of up to 4 pages (including references) or a poster relating to the topics identified above, or related themes. Submissions should be in PDF format, and do not need to be anonymous.
The deadline for submissions will be May 3rd 2018.

Accepted position papers and posters will be posted on the workshop website prior to the start of the event for attendees to read and authors will be encouraged to bring along a demo if appropriate. Successful PhD students and Early Career Researchers will be able to apply for some financial support to attend the workshop, more details will be provided shortly.

Attendance:
At least one author of each accepted position paper must register for and attend the full-day workshop on September 3rd 2018 and register for one day of the MobileHCI conference. Authors will be given the chance to briefly present their submissions, but the core of the workshop is the interactive discussion of key topics in mobile privacy and security through a variety of group activities. We will also produce a report based on the discussions and outcomes of the workshop, with the aim of creating a possible submission to a conference or journal for interested parties.
