HCI2004: Design for Life
http://www.hci2004.org

The 18th British Human-Computer Interaction Group Annual Conference is
taking place at Leeds Metropolitan University, UK from 6-10 September
2004. May 7th 2004 is the deadline for industry day submissions.

The Industry Day programme is intended to help practitioners find ideas
that they can incorporate into their work. Contributors who feel that
their work is of primary benefit to practitioners in industry are
invited to submit presentations for industry day. Contributions are
particularly encouraged on the following:

Tools and methods for usability and HCI design in the industrial
context;
Experiences in design for different user groups e.g. accessibility best
practice;
Results of experience in practice;
Product evaluations;
Experience of training people in HCI and usability techniques; Guidance
on how to introduce usability in a new situation.

Industry Day submissions will be selected for their benefit to
practitioners. Material should emphasize ways in which practitioners
might adopt findings into their work. As well as providing their view
on the technical validity of each presentation, reviewers will be asked
to
judge the readability of the material. This will include clear use of
language, without any unnecessary jargon, and appropriate references to
provide deeper understanding.

Submissions for industry day will include three items:

1. A set of slides for a 30 minute presentation including speaker
notes to elaborate on bulleted points and diagrams;
2. A 30 word summary of the presentation that will be suitable for
inclusion in the programme and on the web site to introduce the
presentation;
3. A two page paper prepared using the format for volume 2 of the
conference proceedings.

On initial submission the author must supply the presentation and
summary (items 1 and 2) by 7 May. This will be used for review and
selection. Authors of accepted Industry Day submissions will be notified
by 11 June, with final copy of the presentation, summary and paper
(revised where appropriate) will be required by 2 July when authors will
also be asked to confirm their attendance at the conference.
