WORKSHOP ON
Visualisation and Distributed Systems Technology in Dynamic Work
Contexts
13-14 Dec 2006

Hosted by the AD4 Virtual Airspace Management System Consortium, the
Interaction Design Centre, Middlesex University, and the European
Commission.
To be held at Middlesex University, London, UK
http://www.ad4-project.com/workshop

We invite the submission of papers for the Workshop on Visualisation
and Distributed Systems Technology in Dynamic Work Contexts. The
purpose of this Workshop is to bring together two distinct yet
complementary themes being researched in people-based dynamic
processes, and to showcase the state-of-the-art in research and
innovation in:

(i) approaches to visualization of information to support work
activities and collaborations ‘in context’ for control and situation
awareness; and
(ii) approaches to the development and deployment of distributed
systems and infrastructures to support novel visualisations.

Such innovations could be developed in a number of critical, dynamic,
distributed, information-rich domains. This could include application
areas such as Air Traffic Management, Operating theatres, Emergency and
Disaster Management, Coastal and Maritime Surveillance, Military
Command and Control, and industrial and financial systems.

BACKGROUND
The Workshop is organised by the AD4 Virtual Airspace Management System
Consortium, and sponsored by the European Commission under FP6. The
Consortium’s purpose is to develop an innovative 4D (3D space and time)
visualisation system for air traffic control that would operate safely
and securely across a distributed systems environment.

THEMES
Submissions are sought that describe research and developments which
are outside the scope of the AD4 project that demonstrate advances and
innovations on, but not limited to, the following themes:

1. Innovations in Visualisation in Context, including topics such as:
- Approaches to analysing the context of information use as a precursor
to the design of novel visualisations
- Techniques and principles for bridging between qualitative studies of
work (e.g. ethnographies) to the design of innovative ways of
visualising information
- Visualisation frameworks for spatio-temporal information
- Visualising 3D or 4D space within 2D views
- Interactive visualisations that support multi-agent collaboration,
control and situation awareness
- Virtual and Augmented Reality-based 4D visualization

2. Innovations in Distributed Systems Technology to support novel
information visualisations such as:
- ensuring secure middleware deployment across the internet
- model driven approaches in software engineering
- integration of methodologies

SUBMISSIONS
Submissions may be up to 6 pages long, in the format that to be
downloaded from the Workshop website.

For papers or queries in the Visualisation theme, please send your
submission via email to Bob Fields at [log in to unmask]; and for
papers or queries in the Distributed Systems theme, please send you
submistion via email to Rudolf Schreiner at [log in to unmask], by
13 October 2006

PARTICIPATION IN THE WORKSHOP
Participation at the workshop will be open to all. However, due to
space limitations at the venue, priority for attendance will be
accorded to those groups with papers accepted for presentation. Once a
paper has been accepted, at least one of the authors is expected to
register for the Workshop and present the paper.

PROCEEDINGS
The submitted papers will be published in a workshop proceedings, with
an ISBN number, and will also be available for download from the
Workshop website after the event.

IMPORTANT DATES
Friday 13 October 2006: deadline for papers to be submitted
Friday 27 October 2006: notification to authors
Monday 13 November 2006: final camera-ready to be submitted
	13-14 December 2006: Workshop

REGISTRATION
