HCI Educators Workshop 2012
---------------------------------------

Date: 11th September 2012

Aim
===
Building on the previous work of the HCI disciplinary commons (http://www.cs.kent.ac.uk/people/staff/saf/hcidc/) the aim is to enable people who wish to publish pedagogical papers relating to the teaching of HCI to have a forum to do so, and enable those interested in this area to meet and to share teaching experiences. Hopefully delegates will come away with either a new idea or a way of enhancing their teaching and/or assessment.

Overview
=======
The workshop will be split into two sessions, the first session will enable researchers, educators and practitioners to present papers relating to pedagogical research in HCI. Following on from this, there will be a brief discussion on is there a need for more pedagogical research on teaching HCI? What are the questions that need answering? During the break there will be opportunity to enable those interested to network in order to form institutional collaborations to try and answer the questions (answering questions beyond the scope of this event).

The next session will be related to sharing knowledge and will enable delegates to share their teaching and assessment experiences. This session will be broken up into 2 sessions, 1 for teaching and 1 for assessment.

Papers
=====
Researchers, educators, and practitioners are invited to submit pedagogical research papers. Submissions in this category should represent original work not published elsewhere, all papers will be peer reviewed and should be 4 pages in length submitted in the BCS EWiC format.

On the day accepted papers will have 20 minutes presentation time followed by questions.

Sharing Knowledge
==============
It is expected that each delegate will bring one postcard (or could be done on the day) describing one teaching activity that they think works well within the context of their HCI teaching.

They will be given 5 minutes approximately to share this with the other delegates. These will be collated and made publically available after the event at www.hcied.org.

Delegates will then be given the opportunity to highlight problem areas within the HCI curriculum and through discussion potential solutions will be identified.

This process will also be performed for assessment practices.
