2nd CALL FOR PAPERS - IDC 2011 Workshop

*Opportunities and Challenges when Designing and Developing with Kids @
School*
in conjunction with the 10th International Conference on Interaction
Design and Children

June 20th, 2011
University of Michigan
Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA

http://workshops.icts.sbg.ac.at/KidsSchool/
------------------------------------------------------------------------

TOPIC:
The school context provides a fruitful and at the same time challenging
environment for getting children engaged in creative activities. This
one-day workshop wants to bring together researcher from a wide spectrum
of disciplines and research communities (interaction and user interface
design, game development, education) who share a common interest in
understanding the opportunities and challenges to get children involved
in the development process in the school context.

PARTICIPATION:
Position papers are invited, but are not limited, on the following topics:
- Methodological challenges to get children involved as informants,
designers and evaluators in the school context, e.g. also as part of
their educational program;
- Opportunities and challenges in educational domain areas, considering
pedagogical constraints and potentials (intra and extra curricular
activities);
- Understanding the different user roles and stakeholders (children,
teacher, director, parents, etc.);
- Exploration of advanced interaction concepts (e.g. pervasive
technologies) within and for the context school as well as for
educational purposes;
- Benefits of a user-centered design process integrated in an
educational setting (involving researchers, teacher and children);
- Lessons learned from methods or approaches that involved children
successfully in the development process of interactive technologies;

The goal of the workshop is to share experiences and best practices on
the above topics of interests as well as to explore future potentials on
how to guide the involvement and participation of children in the
development process of interactive technologies with a special focus on
the school (educational) context. Thereby, we will also consider the
specific contextual influences and pedagogical opportunities as well as
challenges when getting children involved.

SUBMISSION:
Workshop candidates are requested to send in a position paper (must be
formatted according to ACM SIGCHI Publications Format and should not
exceed 4 pages) about research they have been involved with (related to
the topics described above) via email to marianna.obrist[at]sbg.ac.at.
At least one author of accepted papers needs to register for the
workshop and for one-day of the conference itself.

IMPORTANT DATES:
April 15th, 2011 Submission of Position Papers
April 29th, 2011 Notification of Acceptance
May 13rd, 2011 Camera Ready Paper Version
June  20th, 2011    One-Day Workshop at IDC 2011
