November 16, 2013, Washington DC, USA,
http://wish2013workshop.wordpress.com/
Co-located with the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) Annual Symposium, http://www.amia.org/amia2013.

WISH 2013 will host a mentoring program for students and junior researchers joining the fields of HCI health and biomedical informatics. We are pleased to offer travel support for mentees accepted into the program and will match them up with members of the steering committee (http://wish2013workshop.wordpress.com/steering-committee/) for one-on-one mentoring meetings during the workshop.

We will accept 8 students/junior researchers this year. Each mentee's workshop registration fee will be waived. In addition, each mentee will receive up to $600 travel support and $400 for hotel accommodation.

(1) Workshop Description

Addressing the complex interplay among human, organizational, and technological systems in healthcare is critically important. At the intersection of these systems lies a significant research area that has the potential to impact the quality, safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of the healthcare system in America. Although new research initiatives aim at better aligning health information technology (IT), clinical practices, and technology design informed by best practices in human factors and human–computer interaction, current efforts are spread out in several disjointed research communities, lacking established pathways for the transfer of knowledge and expertise.

WISH 2013 aims to foster cross-disciplinary connections to develop new methods, approaches, and techniques that remove health IT adoption barriers. The workshop is a joint effort between the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) Special Interest Group on Computer Human Interaction and the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA). WISH is currently in its 4th year—WISH 2010 was collocated with the ACM conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (http://www.chi2010.org/wish/); WISH 2011 and WISH 2012 were collocated with the AMIA Annual Symposium (https://wish2011.wordpress.com/; https://wish2012.wordpress.com/).

Building upon the success of the workshop last year, AMIA has offered to co-host WISH 2013 again on November 16th, 2013 in Washington DC, collocated with its Annual Symposium. This year, the one-day interdisciplinary workshop will include a combination of keynote presentations, peer-reviewed and invited panels, and interactive poster exhibitions so that attendees can discuss the most pressing issues in the design, development, and evaluation of health IT and the impact of the new research on commercial health IT systems.
