Dear Colleagues:

In collaboration with the journal “Frontiers in Communications and Networks
<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/communications-and-networks__;!!Nmw4Hv0!mZd3WP-othn-S8BzCjjdkDouDeVKihci9395iVRA_cR4m61MkxRrlNWtbTckP2VHbwSV$>”,
we are pleased to let you know about our open-access special issue (SI)
call on: “Internet of Things in Extreme Environment
<https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/14920/internet-of-things-in-extreme-environment>
”.

Frontiers ranks as the 5th most-cited publisher among the 20 largest
publishers in 2020 with more than 1.6 million citations. The new journal of
Frontiers (Frontiers in Communications and Networks
<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/communications-and-networks__;!!Nmw4Hv0!mZd3WP-othn-S8BzCjjdkDouDeVKihci9395iVRA_cR4m61MkxRrlNWtbTckP2VHbwSV$>)
publishes cutting edge research in telecommunication across different
domains. The editorial board of Frontiers and Communications and Networks
consist of global leading and active researchers in the field of wireless
and wired communication systems and networks.

We look forward to your contributions. Please feel free to forward this
call for papers (CFP) to any active researchers in the field.

Here are the CFP details:,

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a revolutionary technology having a great
impact on our society with numerous applications such as smart health,
smart cities, smart building, and smart homes. Not only this, IoT devices,
when embedded in extreme environments, such as oceans, mines, oil rigs, and
space, can enable various other challenging applications, namely, climate
monitoring, space exploration, detecting ground-water contamination, and
smart agriculture. For example, the IoT devices in agriculture can generate
early warnings to cope with the pests or notify regarding the soil
moisture, thus mitigating the threat before it appears a crisis. While this
hot topic is motivating researchers to propose different solutions,
deploying the IoT devices and connecting them in extreme environments is
considerably challenging.

This research topic is soliciting original research articles, reviews,
perspectives, and opinions on IoT in extreme environments.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

• Communication, networking, and localization in Internet of Underwater
Things
• Communication, networking, and localization in Internet of Underground
Things
• Communication, networking, and localization in Internet of Space Things
• Communication, networking, and localization in In-vivo Health Sensors
• Network architecture for IoT in extreme environments
• Multi-modal sensing techniques
• IoT for Climate monitoring
• IoT for Precision agriculture
• Earth observation and space exploration using tiny satellites
• Bio-degradable IoT devices
• Energy harvesting in IoT networks
