Many researchers are currently investigating ways in which to deliver health care and assistance in the home. This workshop will focus on how to design systems for rehabilitation in the home and investigate how technology can encourage adherence in a myriad of ways from visualisations to games.  The vast majority of studies to date have mostly been restricted to a clinical setting due to factors such as the cost, availability and often complex setup of equipment used (e.g. motion capture systems) as well as the need for the direct supervision of the patient by a physiotherapist. 

The workshop will bring together researchers at a crucial time as there is a massive push by health care providers for rehabilitation to be delivered in the home in order to cut costs. As the technology that may provide this care is still in its infancy, it is crucial that researchers from many areas work together in order not just to make this vision a technical reality, but also a pleasant experience for the end users/patients experiencing it. 

The aims of the workshop are to:

-        bring together researchers who are working in the field to discuss current work and the goals of such interventions

-        create an ontology: this will encompass an account of current work but also a mapping of ideas, concepts and other entities that are assumed to exist in the area and the relationships that could be formed. 

-        gain awareness of the European and also the global opportunities for funding in the tele-home market

-        investigate and identify opportunities for fostering collaboration in the field.

The workshop aims to bring together a wide range of researchers who are working on home-based systems that provide the user with guidance / assistance for home-based activities/exercises with the aim of eliminating direct supervision by allied health professionals such as physiotherapists or occupational therapists. We are particularly interested in reports of systems that will encourage independence and boost patients' confidence in the home or other care settings.

Submission Deadline: Feb 25th 

Notification of Acceptance: March 25th                                                  

Camera Ready papers: 25th April

Presentation at Workshop: 23rd May
