UPDATE #1: The interest in our call for papers on Turkey has been strong, so we are now opening up invitations to submit scholarly extended abstracts. These are typically papers written often with post-graduates and mentors in the authorship team where a scholarly article of 1000-1500 words is submitted for double blind peer review, and if accepted, then published in this journal.

The Scholarly Extended Abstract call allows authors to test an aspect of their research in our journal before developing a full and differently focussed paper for future publication. This is a good way to build your publication record and get feedback from international reviewers familiar with the multi-disciplinary nature of studying and/or engaging in the practice of transforming human settlements. By submitting a paper, you will also have an opportunity to build your skills as an invited reviewer for other papers aligned to your interests.

I would like to remind the date of closure remains the 10 of June 2019 for initially submitting your brief 250 word paper proposals (regular abstracts) for both full papers (~7000 words) and scholarly extended abstracts (1000-1500 words).
Ekistics, one of the oldest scholarly journals, has recently been revived as Ekistics and the New Habitat, and is planning a special issue for May 2020 on the topic of Turkey, Urbanism and the New Habitat.

Changes that have taken place in the world over the past twenty years, including ecological disturbances and radical changes in traditional settlements have produced cities that are not just chaotic and monotonous in appearance, but have serious environmental problems threatening their inhabitants.

We should be aware of the fact that today’s development practices not only consume enormous amounts of land and natural resources, damage ecosystems, produce a wide variety of pollutants and toxic chemicals, create ever-growing distances and fuel global warming. Additionally, they create inequities between groups of people, undermine local community and social values, economies and quality of life. In this context, environmentally sensitive design approaches at the building scale has been understood by comparing to those at the urban scale.

While there have been significant developments in the field, contemporary architectural practice in some developing countries is still playing catch-up in many aspects of sustainable design. These incremental changes imply a more critical state in cities of developing countries like Turkey where transformations in the urban level are still visible.

This Special Issue seeks papers from architecture, urban design and planning practitioners, academics and researchers which posit and analyse the problems of the cities and the new habitats in Turkey considering various aspects while looking for new perspectives towards more sustainable, resilient and livable cities.
In this context, the following are recommended to take into consideration:
* Any aspect of the United Nations New Urban Agenda (http://habitat3.org/the-new-urban-agenda/?utm_source=Ekistics+Journal+All&utm_campaign=d4a26c1505-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_4_21_2019_22_9_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_43cc8ff7ee-d4a26c1505-84306821&ct=t(Y)) , in Habitat III, including reference to the Sustainable Development Goals (https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/sustainable-development-goals/?utm_source=Ekistics+Journal+All&utm_campaign=d4a26c1505-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_4_21_2019_22_9_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_43cc8ff7ee-d4a26c1505-84306821&ct=t(Y)) .
* Critiques on local, regional and global policy of habitat development, design and planning, and urban transformation
* Issues of architecture, urban design, spatial planning, housing, conservation, sustainability, livability, environmental planning and regeneration through a cross-disciplinary and/or global perspective.

We invite proposals engaged in the mentioned framework of topics in the form of a 250-word abstract by 10 June 2019 before the full paper on that proposal is submitted by considering the expectations below:

Scholarly articles/reviews (full papers, double-blind review): typically, with title, authors, institutional affiliations, abstract, keywords, body text (5000-7000 words), and APA 6th References at the end of the article. Body text typically includes:
* an introduction to a problem or topic outlining the need for the research,
* the key prior papers in Ekistics and other sources that relate to the topic,
* the methodological or conceptual framework and methods used,
* the summary of key results or findings,
* a critical concluding discussion.
