Dear colleagues,

due to the */Covid-19 pandemic/***the Organizing Committee of SLERD 2020 
and the ASLERD Executive Commmittee
have decided to reconfigure the conference and take the following actions:

1) *SLERD 2020 **will be in a full blown *virtual conference* format 
*and will be *postponed* to *29-30 June 2020*.

2) the physical to virtual switch and the conference postponement has 
been considered as an opportunity
to share with a larger number of colleagues the efforts about the 
development of smart learning ecosystems
and, as well, to build together a brilliant post pandemic future; 
because of this
-> the *call for paper will be re-opened* for a narrow window -> till 
*19th of April* (see important dates below)
-> the *participation fee **has been **substancially ***reduced * */
//40 € for ASLERD members (including students);//
//100 € for non-ASLERD members;//
//80 € for student non-ASLERD members./*

**Springer proceedings will be maintained* and aligned with the new 
important dates, together with*the IxD&A special issue *

3) the *Student Design Contest* has been *cancel**led* since the 
expected f2f exhibition of prototypes cannot be realized;
/However, students that have submitted a contribution will be admitted 
as //virtual attendees to SLERD2020 conference at no fee.

This Virtual conference will be *entirely supported by videoconferencing 
channels/rooms*, with different interactive features capable of sharing 
resources amongst presenters and participants in real-time. Participants 
will not need to acquire or install and specific software application in 
their computer to participate in this virtual environment. The use of 
smartphones to participate in the virtual channels/rooms will require 
the installation of a free version of a specific APP./

Participation in the virtual channels/rooms will be restricted to 
registered SLERD 2020 participants./

We sincerely hope this new SLERD 2020 format represents a contribution 
to keep the academic community vigorous, socially aware and capable to 
produce and share knowledge at the best it can.

does not simply means “technology enhanced”. The smartness is a more 
complex multilayered construct related to the wellbeing of the players 
operating in the ecosystems and is affected by the improvement of any 
relevant aspects of the learning processes and ecosystem functioning, 
especially if connected with territorial development and social innovation.
Technologies are mediators. Hopefully they should be included but they 
are not a “sine qua non”.
The achievement of the learning ecosystems’ smartness is a process that 
need a long term vision, multidisciplinary competences, an attitude to 
understand people and contexts and to mediate point of views, a dynamic 
resilience to keep on track to achieve, step by step, the foreseen goals.
