*The School of Information and Communication Studies (UCD ICS) is 
offering one EU PhD scholarships under the University College Dublin PhD 
Scholarship Initiative.*

*UCD PhD Scholarship Scheme*
Under the UCD PhD Scholarship initiative, 150 PhD scholarships are being 
offered across a number of Schools in the University for the 2016/17 
academic year.  These scholarships underline the University’s commitment 
to the pursuit of excellence in research, graduate education and 
training. The overall aim of the initiative is to attract graduates of 
the highest academic standards to participate in and expand School-based 
structured PhD programmes in UCD.

*The Award*
Successful scholarship awardees will be offered a fee waiver at the EU 
fee rate for a period of up to four years, subject to the applicant 
meeting agreed criteria each year.

**The School of Information and Communication Studies (UCD ICS)*
UCD ICS is part of the iSchool caucus and its research is highly 
interdisciplinary. Much of the work is strongly anchored in the human 
sciences, focusing on the interaction between people, information and 
society in technological and communicative contexts. It has a strong 
base in theories from across the disciplines, uses both qualitative and 
quantitative research methods and is interdisciplinary in its research 
outputs.

Core areas of Research Interest include:
     •    Digital Curation and Digital Heritage
     •    Human Computer Interaction and Informatics
     •    Communication with and through technology
     •    Theoretical Foundations of Information Science
     •    Information Behaviour and Information Seeking
     •    Open data and society

In order to apply for the scholarships, students must submit a PhD 
application via the normal school process. All submissions received by 
this deadline will be considered for the scholarship.
