IAKM News

The Information Architecture and Knowledge Management program at Kent State
University began its third year with enrollment tripled from the first
year, three graduates, new multiple degree options, a new faculty member,
and a new Dean for the College of Communication and Information.  For more

Multiple Degree Option with Journalism and Mass Communications and Library
and Information Science

To prepare professionals to span many fields and work effectively in new
roles, Kent State University began offering the option of multiple advanced
degrees in the fields of information architecture and knowledge management,
journalism and mass communication and library and information science.  The
new multiple degree option offers students seeking Masters degrees in IAKM,
Journalism and Mass Communication and Library and Information Science the
opportunity to earn two Masters degrees.  For more information on the

Heiko Haubitz joins the IAKM program as Instructor

Heiko Haubitz joined IAKM faculty this Fall semester 2003.  He holds a
Masters of Library and Information Science from Wayne State University. He
is currently completing doctoral work in the School of Information at The
University of Texas at Austin. His research focus is publishing,
information architecture, usability, and user studies. He has developed
courses in information literacy, web publishing and usability. He has given
lectures on information management and usability in Germany and the U.S.
Haubitz has been the recipient of numerous awards including a Fulbright
Scholarship, the Eugene Garfield Dissertation Award and is a member of Beta
Phi Mu.

Kent State Names Dean for Innovative College of Communication and Information

Following a national search, James L. Gaudino, Ph.D., has been appointed as
the first Dean of Kent State University's unique College of Communication
and Information.  Gaudino, who brings an impressive academic and
professional background to Kent State, has served as executive director of
the National Communication Association (NCA), in Washington, D.C., since 1988.

The College of Communication and Information was created as an innovative
approach to the integration of complementary disciplines. The College
includes the Schools of Communication Studies, Journalism and Mass
Communication, Library and Information Science and Visual Communication
Design.
