The Madeira Interactive Technologies Institute (M-ITI) of the University of Madeira was awarded an ERA Chair to begin in the fall term of 2014 or earlier.
http://ec.europa.eu/research/era/era-chairs_en.html

This prestigious grant awarded to only eleven research institutions in Europe involves a research track, career-oriented appointment for a dedicated, passionate thought leader in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Design Innovation (DI). M-ITI is looking for a world-class researcher with industry experience who can further the institute in its mission to become a leading research institution in the European Research Area through the LEAPFROG EU-funded pilot project of the forthcoming Horizon 2020 program.

The ERA Chair grant from the pilot Horizon 2020 call involves total budget of 2.35M€ for a period of five years including:
	• Tenure research track position with initial appointment of five years for the ERA Chair holder
	• Salary for hiring three full time researchers at assistant or associate levels and three staff positions (project management, TCO and lab engineer)
	• Startup package for lab equipment up to 260K€ and exchange of know-how with potential EU partners up to 100K€

M-ITI is located on the beautiful island of Madeira, just 90 minutes from mainland Europe. M-ITI’s vision is to become an influential and internationally recognized center for research and education in HCI in the key application areas of ICT for aging populations, sustainability, and digital culture. M-ITI serves as an “innovation engine” for driving leading-edge research and advancing the strategic development of the University and the region of Madeira.

The ERA Chair will continue our tradition of interdisciplinary HCI research, including the collaboration in the dual-degree Master in HCI with the prestigiousHCI Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. The ERA Chair will also have an important role in developing and expanding the current PhD program, managing relations with a strong alumni base and recruiting new students who will enrich our community.

The ERA Chair will become an integral part of the M-ITI community. M-ITI is known for its warmth and generosity of spirit, integrating 14 nationalities in its community of more than 20 faculty and 100 graduate students. We are looking for a pragmatic visionary looking for a challenge and willing to join our culture, working as a team to foster a rich, supportive interdisciplinary environment where top people pursue socially relevant, high-impact results.
