=====Deadline for Short Papers: 14th June 2013 (Notification:-26th July
2013)=======
Some History
HCI 2013 is the 27th Annual Conference of the Specialist HCI group of
the BCS, the BCS Interaction SG. Since its establishment in 1985, the
conference has become the leading annual HCI conference in Europe. As
well as being a leading venue for dissemination, the conference has a
history of nurturing research careers- many of the leading HCI
researchers published their early papers here and it is recognised for
helping students and new academics as much as being a leading forum for
established researchers. We want to carry on this well-established
tradition into 2013.
==Conference Theme==
The conference will focus on the internet of things and the challenges
it holds for HCI researchers. This should ensure that there are a
variety of submissions. We believe this focus will show the diversity
and richness of HCI research in the UK and Internationally for such a
topical area of debate.
==The Venue==
The conference will take place at the Brunel University campus in
Uxbridge, West London. The campus is easily accessible, being only a 20
minute walk (or short bus ride) from Uxbridge tube station with services
direct into London. It is also close to the M40, M25 and M4 motorways
and just a 15 minute cab ride from Heathrow airport. The campus has
benefitted from a recent £300 million redevelopment and striking 1960s
architecture now sits alongside outstanding modern designs, offset by
gardens and interconnecting pathways.
The University has extensive conference facilities, including a lecture
centre with a 215 seat lecture theatre close to multiple seminar rooms
and a large open exhibition space where a buffet lunch will be served
each day during the conference.
Socially, the conference will build on its reputation for the liveliest,
friendliest place to meet other HCI researchers.
==Short Paper Submissions==
Short papers should be a maximum of 6 pages and should be compact short
pieces of original work.
==Submissions==
We encourage submissions that focus on human interaction with technology
and computer systems. Whether your work is at the fundamental end of the
spectrum (theory, design, or principle), or at the practical end
(evaluation, product, or impact) we are interested in encouraging
high-quality submissions to the conference.
The deadline for submission is 14th June 2013 (Notification:-26th July 2013)
Relevant topics areas include but are by no means limited to:
Persuasive Technology
Mobile Interactions
User Experience
Touchable interactions
Affective Computing/Interactions
Usability Engineering
Accessibility
Child Computer Interaction
Interaction Design
UCD4D
Recommender Systems
Annotation
Brain Computer Interfaces
Technology and Culture
E-Government
All tracks will be peer reviewed by an international panel of leading
researchers. Papers will be published in the BCS e-WIC repository and in
the ACM Digital Library.
In keeping with the BCS HCI ethos, early career researchers are
especially encouraged to submit to the main conference, whilst those
still undertaking PhDs should consider applying for the doctoral
consortium, a training and supportively critical forum to discuss your
research in.
