====================================================================
The goal of the workshop is to reflect on how HCI research can contribute to democratic practices, taking into consideration the heavily subjective nature of both “democracy” as a value and “participation” as a means to achieve it.
We invite researchers and practitioners from the fields of maker communities, DIY electronics, design for democracy, socially engaged creative practices to submit 200-500 words abstract (by email to [log in to unmask]) describing a context that you have worked in or designed for focusing on the way in which democracy is exercised. This could include anything from a field study, a work in progress, developed technologies, and prototypes in contexts such as local communities, the workplace, the home, and others.
At the workshop you will be expected to briefly present your context (2-3 minutes lightning talk) including a reflection on how democracy and participation is practiced and the kind of technological and non-technological responses that could contribute to deepening democratic practices and widening participation.
