Please join us for this one day participatory workshop, part of the INTERACT 2017 conference, September 25, 2017, Mumbai, India.

Designing Gestures for Interactive Systems: Towards Multicultural Perspectives
http://gesturedesign.ircam.fr/workshop-interact17/ <http://gesturedesign.ircam.fr/workshop-interact17/>

Workshop of the International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction
https://interact2017.org <https://interact2017.org/>

Context and Objectives
We address in this workshop the problem of designing gestures for interactive systems. Current multi-touch and motion sensing technologies allow for capturing a large scope of gestures and movements that can be used to interact expressively with different media. Yet, the common use of gestures remains limited to few well-known strokes such as wipes and pinches, and hands or body movements remain rare.

Our aim is precisely to explore the question of gesture and movement design in a participatory workshop. In particular, we wish to focus the discussion on possible differences in cultures and contexts, and how this might affect both positively or adversely the appropriation of shared gestural interaction paradigms.

The workshop is open to participants of diverse backgrounds including engineering, human and social sciences, design and the performing arts.

To participate in the workshop

- Please send to [log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]> a short email describing your motivation and/or background
(preferably by June 21st., note that early-bird registration ends on July 1st.)

- Optionally, you can submit an extended abstract (4 pages max) that will be published in the official adjunct conference proceedings.
Don’t hesitate to send us supporting material (e.g. videos) describing a method/tool for gesture design, to be possibly tested during the workshop

- Register to the workshop: https://interact2017.org/registration <https://interact2017.org/registration>
