Teaching HCI and Design of Interactive Systems
                                      Peter Gorny, Oldenburg, Germany
                                      Tom Hewett, Philadelphia PA, USA

IFIP Working Group 13.1 (Education in HCI and HCI Curriculum) continues
discussion about how to organise the qualification process for HCI in
Higher Education. In several workshops that have taken place at other
conferences, and in a recent IFIP Workshop on "Teaching Design of
Interactive Systems", the aim has been to explore issues and enhance the
integration of HCI education in the curricula of different disciplines,
such as Computer Science, Psychology, Graphics Design and - because of the
growing use of embedded computer systems in all kinds of devices -
Industrial Design.

The workshop we will discuss and compare present approaches in various
countries and in different subject areas. We expect this will result in
outlines for recommendations, which will be the basis for further
development work after the workshop.

If you are interested in participating in the workshop, send a
position paper to the email address below. This should detail your
present institution, your background and present activities in
teaching HCI design or design in general; the courses you and/or
your institution offer in HCI or HCI related design (e.g., degree,
level, brief content education); and a position paper indicating your
ideas for further development of HCI related education.

Intended Workshop Participants
Educators in Human Computer Interaction, in User Interface Design.
Interaction Design, Multimedia and Web Design, Industrial Design etc.,
Educators in Software Engineering, Psychology.
